Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 05/02/2025Serious question: has Carolina won a single goal challenge this year? 000
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 25/01/2025Our Tuxedo, Gordie, wearing his Christmas gift, a Waddle see hat. He looks so majestic. Mats looks irritated in the background. #cats. 070

Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 25/01/2025So you CAN spell Canes w/o Necas? 🤔. I’ll miss Necas, but I’m happy we kept KK. This def could work. 140
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 17/01/2025It is a truly awesome cover, and I pre-ordered it. If you ever call me hysterical, my uterus will free itself from the confines of your body and beat you within an inch of your life. Feral? eh, yeah, probably. 😁 120
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 04/01/2025I made this blanket and bear for my cousin’s new baby girl. I feel like my crochet skills are growing. #crochet 🧶 0110
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 02/01/2025I may or may not feel called out by this... not with DMB, of course... 010
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 26/12/2024My students and I watched that film. One student hates it, which is always awesome! (I really like it). 010
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 25/12/2024I teach college and a lot of my students are excited when I talk genre fiction. Increasingly, I’m finding students who’ve newer read a whole novel. It’s not just the subject matter. Their teachers aren’t readers either. 320
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 23/12/2024Honestly, one way is to talk about what you wrote. The students I’ve had that used AI literally could not explain their papers without reading from them. If you wrote it, you’ll be able to explain it enough to show you did. Physical proof? Yeah, notes, version histories, etc. 020
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 22/12/2024My first car was a Ford Escort too. Now I’m still driving the first car I bought as a grown up. A 2000 mini cooper. It still runs fine. My dad drove a TransAm from ‘97-2023 when it was totaled. I loved that car. 030
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 22/12/2024Mats showing his stick who’s boss on the stairs. #cats 040
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 21/12/2024One of my favorite medieval things. I have a version that’s a kind of children’s picture book. This poem helped me through my dissertation as my cat (Ms. Jones) sat with me while I worked. She did not hunt mice, but she was great company! 110
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 21/12/2024Why does this one of my darling idiot #cats do this? 010
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 17/12/2024You left out light Aran, heavy Aran, “it’s more like a worsted than a bulky but it is called bulky” and “discontinued forever.” “Always swatch” is the “stay 100ft back; not responsible for damage to windshield” of the crafting world. 120
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 17/12/2024This is why I like it here. I’m still getting surprise tits in my feed, but they are the right kind of tits!! 000
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 17/12/2024This is one of the best articles on why tech sucks that I've ever read. It's a long read, but excellent, clear, and smart as hell. www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgiv...?wheresyoured.atNever Forgive ThemIn the last year, I’ve spent about 200,000 words on a kind of personal journey where I’ve tried again and again to work out why everything digital feels so broken, and why it seems to keep getting wor... 010
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 17/12/2024Built my #cats their Christmas castle today. I’m laying odds it won’t outlast the new year before they destroy it. But, whatever. They love doing that, so, Merry Christmas to them! 050
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 15/12/2024Hey #AcademicSky has anyone assigned a video game for a course? There are lots of ways this could go badly, console exclusives are out. But is buying a $5-70 game more of an ask than a $5-500 textbook? I've had students write EXCELLENT papers on video games, and am tempted to assign one. Thoughts? 780
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 15/12/2024Great article. I played Mouthwashing because a student wanted to write a paper on it. Great game. Great paper, too. He really got it, and had some super interesting stuff to say. This was for a Death and Dying class. I hope they port this to console soon. 0110
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 15/12/2024Is there a possible world in which humanities students could use AI to create all their schoolwork, humanities faculty could use AI to grade all the schoolwork, and then students and faculty could just read stuff, hangout in classrooms, and learn? #AcademicSky 040
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 15/12/2024That was my exact thought. He and Evans should have teamed up to save Santa’s favorite elf, the Rock. The other half of the film would be the Rock progressively needing less and less saving, with Krampus. 010
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 15/12/2024I wish it had more Simmons. I’d watch that man roll his eyes and be sarcastic forever. And even be sweet like he was in this too. 110
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 15/12/2024Around 38-40. I can’t remember which cities in TX and OK I’ve been in. 220
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 14/12/2024I have watched folks play it, and I had a student write an absolutely brilliant paper on it for a Death and Dying in Lit class last year. Video games can be so awesome! 030
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 14/12/2024It’s grading time! Remembering one semester where I made a math error that dropped all students’ final grades by 1/3 (think B- to C+). I had to do grade changes for like 20/22 students. God bless those 2 solid Bs. Well off to it! #AcademicSky #grading #cat in a chest of drawers just for fun. 0161
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 11/12/2024#Cats under the Christmas tree. Mats on the left disembowels a bird ornament. Theo wants to be under the tree. My favorite bit is the look Theo gives me at the end. 090
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 10/12/2024After lots of grading today he deserves a break. #AcademicSky #cats 0110
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 09/12/2024It is that time of year when students email me late work, which I accept. I pin each email so that I can find it. My pinned list is now so long that I cannot see any new unpinned stuff with scrolling a ton. #AcademicSky 080
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 09/12/2024If I got a paper from a student that did that, it would make me laugh, and, depending on where it fell in my stack o’ papers that might earn an automatic passing grade. 😂 110
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 09/12/2024I’m in my 17th (ish) year teaching. AI has changed everything. I know a good number of students use it. I’m massively overhauling my assignments over break for it, trying more in class stuff, and taking some stuff from my comp classes. I’ll see how it goes. #AcademicSky 040
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 07/12/2024My least favorite part of any crochet project I do. Well, second to checking gauge, which I just skip entirely. 100
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024I direct them to the story, but I don’t show them. Possibly I should! 000
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024These students are thoughtful, insightful, and enthusiastic. Many of them came to medieval lit for the first time and several were nervous about understanding the material, but they got it, and had so much to say about it. I can't wait to read their final drafts! Kids these days, man. Wow. 6/6 140
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024Another short story, a rewrite of Lanval set in a post-apocalyptic world where growing food is nearly impossible. Guinevere is the leader, no Arthur. The unnamed fairy's "magic" is that she can read, and teaches Lanval to and to grow food. Guen is NOT happy about it, as it threatens her power. 5/ 130
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024A super thoughtful comparison of Gawain in SGGK and Satan, Adam, and Eve in Paradise Lost, including a great discussion on the ability to recognize being wrong and repent. (It made other kids in the class want to read Paradise Lost! WTF??) A painting based on medieval romantic love tropes 4/ 130
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024A young man's mind was blown by Robing Hood, Men in Tights. It is apparently still quite funny, and now I want to rewatch it. A retelling of Sir Orfeo set in the Arcane (Netflix series) world, complete with artistic renderings of the characters. 3/ 130
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024A short story imagining the God of Protagonists who has HAD IT with Gawain in SGGK. Unhinged god, well timed "fucks" (all varieties), and really great understanding of SGGK and its place in Arthurian lit cannon. (As the God of Protagonists noted, isn't Arthuriana really all fan fic anyway?) 2/ 120
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024My students in my #Medieval Lit class gave their final presentations which were pretty delightful. Some were WILD: a thread for #AcademicSky: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as a means of talking about the perils of modern masculinity; included a discussion of Mr. T as BA Baracus and Sampson. 1/ 250
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024There's also the time I had a live squirrel in my office. I'd seen him eyeing the automatic doors in the morning, and in the afternoon he showed up in my office. A maintenance guy showed up, caught the squirrel barehanded (well, he wore gloves, but no traps) and took him outside. 000
Emily @emilyleverett.bsky.social · 06/12/2024I had a dead squirrel in my ceiling in the AC duct. He killed himself on a metal prong. Blood dripped out from the vent into my officemate's area, but we didn't noticed because it was in the corner. The smell was awful. There's still a blood stain on the vent. 100
