3: Identification of a mastodon from Mexico as highly diverged from both (maybe American, maybe Pacific, maybe something else - we're looking into it). 4: At least 3 (likely 4) mastodon migrations into the eastern parts of North America during interglacials! #mastoDNA

We propose this model of mastodon phylogeography (below), and highlight four major takeaways: 1+2: First pacific mastodon DNA; Pacific mastodons in Alberta and overlap with American mastodons in space and time.
Map showing ranges of Pacific and American mastodons in North America. Arrows indicate two migrations into Berinigia, and three migrations into the east coast corresponding to different interglacial periods during the Pleistocene.

Happy to share our latest work on Pleistocene mastodons, featuring mastodons on coasts of North America! Great collaboration that resulted in a really interesting paper (link below)! Huge shout out to Kathryn Killackey for making this beautiful piece! scim.ag/47Dn6pM
