More Meraxis posting. I am once again asking for critique.

Meraxis, a half-demon girl, looks back at the viewer while striking a pose. Beside an eye-patch with a pentagram on it, multiple small earrings, and a pair of matching purple and black striped gloves and stockings, she has nothing on. It's hard to read her emotion.

This started as a study of some poses from Takahashi Shoko, but I got bored and decided to turn her into Meraxis. I tried doing the grisaille (aka greyscale to color) technique here. Turns out my values need work since I spent a good hour fixing them. Also I got bored after 9+ hours and rushed a bit near the end, which is why her hat and giant scythe are missing along with some anatomical gibberish here and there. Seriously, this is why I usually stick to more cartoony stuff.

And while I'm ranting, why are most of the learning resources for scheme allergic to CSS. I know most of these sites are likely seen from the command line. I know you don't want to get touched by javascript. However, it only takes like 10 declarations to make a decent looking page that's responsive.

Take a look at this screenshot. It's https://bestmotherfucking.website/ with the website inspector open and it's perfect. It has padding, a pleasant sans-serif font, automatically wraps text if the screen shrinks, and detects if you have dark mode enabled and adapts accordingly, all in 19 lines of CSS, most which are for developer legibility. It loaded faster than I could blink on my mid 30Mb internet speed even without cookies. Why is your web page that looks straight out of the mid 90's taking multiple seconds to load?

Text contrast is not a bad thing. The print on your newspaper is not true black, nor is the text on your screen. These are limitations, not ideals. Stop making it worse.

Darya feeds off emotions like fear and rage, so you have to hug and nuzzle foes until they calm down. I have the story in ink (the language) and a prototype of the combat. Just need to make the thing.

Wait. Your software had multiple timelines? I've been adding layers to the same timeline in Krita and Blender. Also you can hover over buttons to see what they do. The "Add blank frame" and "Add duplicate frame" buttons are to the right of that speed % bar you see on the "Animation Timeline" bar.

Normally I'm a proponent of "Death of the Author". That is not caring about who the author was or what they say on xitter decades after their work was published (eg Schrodinger fucked kids then wrote about it). However, in JKR's case her world views directly shaped the world of Harry Potter. One could cover the way races besides humans are treated like barely sentient objects or the school houses that are "Heroes, Villains, Smart People, and Normies", but instead I'll cover how dirty Luna Scamander nee Lovegood was done. Note it's been about 1.5 decades since reading the books, so I'm going off memory here.

Let's start with her name. Luna means moon which historically is associated with madness hence terms like "lunacy" or "lunatic". Scamander refers to the Greek river god of the same name. Depending on who you ask, the name could mean anything from "limping man" to "awkward man". In a world where language is power, that's like naming your child "kick me". Of course she gets bullied for her extrinsic personality, part of which is exacerbated by her name. (Loony Luna, Luna the Loon, that lunatic girl, etc).

Speaking of her personality, many autistic people (myself included) relate to her in part of her personality and the way she's outcasted because of it. So when we see the heros ignore this issue or in Ron's case join in on the bullying and have it treated as a gag, that gives decent insight on how JKR views anyone who acts outside the norm. Nevermind the fact that wizards are supposedly outcasts themselves by default thus this behavior is hypocritical.

This could have been forgivable if it weren't JKR's public stances on trans folk. They confirm that if you are different she doesn't see you as a human being.

One of my iterations of Phyll. I went for a creepier vibe by making her features more angular, inverting her eye colors, reducing the fluff, exposing her muscles, making her fingers more like claws, and (hopefully) giving her a devious expression.

I may need to dial it back a little. I don't want her to read as a villain.

The original design from a few years back. Was going for cozy back then with the fluffy scarf and soft details. As the caption implies, I intended to use this as the cover of a home made notebook. Unfortunately inkjet printers use color ink for grays and freak out when you use non-approved paper. I hate printer companies so much.
