On my first geography field work residential. Pondering on whether it’s a fact that it always, always, always rains on a geog trip, until it’s time to be indoors. And not a slight drizzle, but big fat soaking rain, that attacks from all directions!

A question I’ve been asking colleagues today: “what have you planned this week that is for you, not school, not the family, just something that’s all for you?” What’s your answer?

Help needed! I’ve a tiny class of 2 for A Level History- both capable of an A* but they are both introverts who detest sharing views or challenges to their ideas & no chance of challenging each other. Any ideas for ways of expanding their thinking up to the A* without class debate or discussions?

I mentioned my 40something age with Y9 while giving the overview of this year’s content, was talking about recalling news footage of the USSR from childhood. Not sure how to take “wow she’s as old as my mum” Do I take it as she doesn’t look as old as my mum, or bloody hell she’s not in her 90s??

But, the sole consumption of this treat is only achieved if the cat is outside. Otherwise you are forced to share. Tigs is particularly fond of a smoked Bavarian cheese

So occasionally I choose to have what I like to call sofa picnic for dinner. It generally is made up of various deli meats and cheese, crackers and on occasion a fancy chutney. Often it is an Aldi purchase but if I’m splashing out it might be M&S selection.

I switched sectors last year, which means for me it’s ISI. They have one whole school pass or fail since last September. But also introduced a new framework. Is outstanding the new pass? How do schools on an improvement journey show their progress to parents and media? Does fail feel nicer?

The tubs of sweets are cheapest in Aldi £4.49 compared to £6 in the rest!

Last September ISI switched to pass or fail judgement. The report is broken into areas but the judgement is just pass or fail. Thankfully we passed and the report was fair. But they had a totally new framework! Not let’s remove the words but expect the same. What is a pass? Will more schools fail?

Anything written by wonderful authors with excellent comical moments such as Sophie Kinsella, Jenny Colgan, Marian Keyes. Yes they are predicable but leave a warm happy heart at the end

Khan Academy - maybe you’ve not looked at it since lockdown… But it has now opened its AI toolkit Khanmigo for free to all teachers in UK. Just need Khan Academy a/c. The Quiz tool is definitely one I’ll be making use of! Do you use AI in your school? Or does your school actively discourage it?

You ‘recycle’ all the boxes, I’ll sit in a carrier bag instead!

I changed jobs 18 months ago, doing that ‘shocking thing’ of leaving at Easter. (I did make sure my Y13s were exam ready as I’m not that harsh) Best thing I ever did as I put myself first, left SLT became a HoD and now back in love with teaching!

If you have a nice mug only wash it up before you refill it. No one steals a dirty mug!!! (But don’t be the one growing your own biological study on your desk)

A dead mouse I could cope with. Mine brings in living ones to ‘play with’ which actually is me desperately trying to catch the poor thing with a dustpan and brush, while she jumps about all excited by the game, try to free it, while cat wanders about trying to work out where her new toy went.

I’m at that stage of the summer break where all the things I’d planned to do are still to be done 🤪 After 20yrs in teaching you’d think I’d have realised that the holidays go faster than any school week
