I will actually completely believe that fandom is describing it that way but it says more about fandom than about the movie

The EU is working on it! And by working on it, I mean they're discussing the idea of a committee that could discuss the possibility of a project group that would lobby governments to please please please invest 0.1% of their budget into it by 2030.

I think we westerners were doomed when it became the majority opinion that caring about safety was "irrational stupidity"

guessing Australia is in the same place as Europe having to deal with the US no longer being a reliable hegemon, so in need of other friends

but it's certainly a pattern that there's always someone taking their bad day out on you, even if it's constantly someone else this is literally exactly why structural oppression is more than just individuals being vile, and queer people really should understand that
0131
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
it's a similar dynamic to being trans among cis people, and every week another one takes their bad day out on you, and if you complain about it, they all rush in to tell you you can't blame this individual one because from them individually, it's such an isolated incident, it can't be a pattern!
1120
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
And then the "come on, be reasonable, this particular individual is having just one bad day, just one in a whole year!", which sounds reasonable for that individual in isolation, becomes "you have to be okay with someone taking their bad day out on you for every day of your life"
1180
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
The thing about the 'bad day' is that if you've a big enough account, you can have a completely different individual take out their bad day on you every day of the year, even if they all individually only do it once a year. It only takes 10% of your followers doing this if you have just 4000!

the government putting minorities in an ever-tightening cage with ever-increasing stresses so the public can be entertained by how they stress out and fight each other? why I never!

The fact that cis people will always search for ways to link transness to sexuality says a lot about how cis society views gender as being all about sex.

It's funny because I associate Italy more with pasta, and pizzas more with American college students

yeah the only thing that maybe sort of helps me a little in that situation is trying to get into a different headspace, usually with pictures and sounds and smells that remind me of when I was in a different headspace, or just passing out

That's also why it's impossible to appease them; any evidence that reality is bending to their will is just encouragement for them to go further.
031
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Exactly, they fundamentally believe reality itself must and should bend to their will, and they will self-immolate taking everyone around with them before ever admitting otherwise.

We have listened to our customers feedback and then we listened to our investors and they assured us you'll all love the genital warts after you get used to them so we decided to force you to get used to them!

I have an idea for this that has historically proven to be the most effective measure for stopping the guys with the guns from just killing everyone, it's called society, you'd think the billionaires would've heard of it since it's what made them rich
131
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
mhm I don't hate the software, I hate that a bunch of billionaires got in cahoots with lawmakers and decided they could just steal all of the world's intellectual property and then sell it back to people as if was now theirs, I hate that they're lying about how useful it is to force it on everyone

In university I took an extra one-hour class on 'writing papers' and it was basically the teacher drilling into us for an hour to read a lot of papers

the audacity of men actually surprises me less than this apparent less object permanence than a goldfish, does he still believe that his teachers lived in the school building?

(These narratives can always reach the heartwarming conclusion that it's quite possible to combine imagination with adult responsibilities - because that was never the problem! We don't just 'forget' to play, we get taught imagination and creativity are 'girly' and therefore to be disparaged!)
0213
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
The problem with modern capitalism is that it's too bigoted to actually make money ... not the biggest problem with it but still it's a problem
1110
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Society loves narratives about what a shame it is that children's play and imagination inevitably disappear in the face of the responsibilities of adulthood and jobs, and I've come to believe this a deliberate cover of the fact that it's mostly the enforcement of 'adult' gender roles that does this.

Meet the man leading the fight for trans rights! In one paragraph at the end of this article where we interview three leading transphobes! All women ofc so we can paint the man as a misogynist.

"ADHD is so severely under-diagnosed in women! -- oh I mean... in AFAB people! cause clearly I wouldn't want to presume I know anything about the 7-dimensional alien mystery that is trans women but I'm just gonna assume trans men's experiences are the exact same as cis women's!" 🙃

The CDU tried to halt the rise of the AfD by going hardline on immigration themselves; this instead halved the CDU while boosting the AfD. Now nobody knows how to stop them, clearly we've tried everything and we're all out of options. I guess the only answer is to become more hardline on immigration

I would almost think this has the secondary goal of prepping society for the idea that women should not be allowed to make their own decisions and that men should make them for them, but why would anyone do such a thing?

Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
I am shocked, shocked that the people zealously defending it do so out of a mortifying fear of admitting that they once upon a time liked something cringe for a brief moment (reading)

trans ppl: I know, they know, that's why they're using it to blindspot you while they destroy liberal democracy cis ppl: nuh-uh, impossible, messing with the fundamental boy & girl particles can only happen in a completely alternate reality that by definition can't ever have anything to do with me
180
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
trans ppl: hey they're undermining science and law to go after us, you care about those things right? cis ppl: is this about messing with the timeless natural laws of the cosmos and all creation? the fundamental unchangeable boy particles & girl particles? I can't stare at that too long, it's scary

I was just thinking now I want to write some Grizzled cynical night elf veteran of a thousand wars and wide-eyed idealistic draenei paladin looking to make a name for herself.

What no they were made to stare wide-eyed at the night elf huntress who's leaning in so close and whisper in a confused voice "... girls can do that? with each other?" as her tail brushes against the huntress' hand and hold on I'm being told these things aren't mutually exclusive

fair, my point is more if you've already been friends for years, it's something you can actually judge fairly accurately, whereas the sex that makes friend groups implodes tends to be borne from haste or underestimation
150
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
't is really quite possible to have sex change nothing if you've been friends for years and years, but that is the opposite of using sex to build kinship
170
Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
and appreciate your friends cause nothing is more discouraging than trying to build friendships and repeatedly getting it made clear that your value is an order of magnitude less than people who do put sex on the table, it creates a self-perpetuating cycle where everyone learns sex is a must

Very true, people who read tend to read everything, and the best way to get their attention is to advertise your work as at least somewhat similar to (or inspired by, or in dialogue with, etc) something they've already enjoyed - and the fastest way to turn them off, to hate something they've enjoyed

Emily @emberyl.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
I appreciate the inherent humor in 'reasonable corporation'. If only we didn't have courts that had already redefined "theft" when it comes to corporations as "anything that might possibly cost them profit for some nebulous reason at some nebulous point in the future according to their own claims".
