I wrote a full 13 page short story in one sitting. I haven’t done that… ever? Maybe a six page short story in a day or a twenty page short story in a week for school… but this??? I must have been possessed or something. It’s a first draft but I’m going to let it sit before I clean it up.

I’m halfway through a collection of Harlan Ellison stories while I’m out at my artist residency. I might be reaching, but I never thought to consider why Christoph’s name is Harlander until I saw @realgdt.bsky.social’s name praising Harlan’s work. There may be no connection, but it’s a fun thought.

What I love is she reminds me of the nature of anti-ecocide films, she is the nature that man’s hubris and greed ends up destroying. She doesn’t overlook the monstrous, but she understands this sort of purity in the small things the scope of progress and power chooses to overlook.

Finally finished my Elizabeth piece to celebrate @realgdt.bsky.social’s Frankenstein film! Elizabeth quickly became an inspiration with her carrying so many roles and motifs in the narrative. I wanted the wood grain and the bars in the image for texture and to match her story.

First ever call back in my life? It doesn’t mean I get the role I want or even if I get in. But after 10 years of doing theater on and off and being inspired by my local community of amazing actors and show-runners, I feel like I’ve leveled up. Impostor syndrome is hitting an all time high.

I want to watch the Charles Dance version of the Phantom of the Opera again. It’s my favorite because we don’t see what Charlie looks like but everyone has a much more severe reaction to his face than any version where we see him. The mystery is divine. He’s so wonderfully sweet and sassy I miss it.

Audition went well! Doubt I’m getting the part knowing how this awesome woman chooses her cast mates, but we’ll see. I audition for her because she puts community in community theater, and brings joy to every production. Whatever happens I trust the judgement of her and the crew.

Actually I’ll clarify that I do a lot of drawing and brainstorming during my Hunker Down Mode because I used to cope with anxiety by drawing as a kid and it sticks. So until I know if I’m on the cast list, I’ll be like this, but I have a ton of ideas for finishing this one manuscript, and I’m good.

Fell into a lull creativity wise. Auditions for my local show are tomorrow so I’m in what I call “Hunker Down Mode” where my brain kind of goes numb and I get a little more anxious but I’m mostly calm while I wait for the thing I’m anticipating to happen.

It was such a boys game. I don’t dislike it for that at all. As a girl you get used to most media not catering to you. I think Robert was a great character for the straight girlies, but there wasn’t much else. I’m writing a hero comic that’s not nsfw, but tries to appeal to different tastes.

Mind you, this has been a WIP for a year and sat for four months until I tacked on about 60 pages in the last few days and did a quick revision of the first 80. I wrote an interlude that spoiled half of the mystery of the story, so I had to rearrange a lot of the first bit to make it not trash.

I still really love this Darkman piece I did last year or year before. It was my first real attempt at making a fully rendered piece with my sketching style. My digital work is very stiff and sterile, so this was my first time trying to marry digital with my comfort zone in traditional sketches.

With the internet sending in a tidal wave of love, my voice is getting lost in the wash anyhow. But both the film itself and the conversation surrounding it is so inspiring, it makes me want to put my all into my projects. It’s just hard to do when I want to check my phone every two seconds.

Knowing how my brain is prone to fixation, when I’m done I’ll probably try and escape the internet for a while. Frankenstein—my heart—is wonderful, but as a creator I need some brain space for my own creatures.

My only problem with it is that because of the lack of traditional structuring that urges me into writing conflict, this one I fear may be interesting to me, but not so much for others. Thank goodness for beta readers and editors though for when I get to that point.

Unlike those other ones, this was the first that felt like I didn’t need an outline to know exactly what to do.

I love how immediately when you discussed media literacy my mind went straight o Boardwalk Empire. It’s my favorite show to come back to for complex narratives that don’t always resolve in emotionally satisfying ways or even cathartic ways in the fashion of tragedy.

I think the only reason I’d still want Twitter is because I have a few cool people following me for some reason that either don’t follow me elsewhere or don’t have other socials. But frankly I’ve had embarrassing encounters with other people I admire there that I genuinely could be happy deleting.

This site might be a softer landing place than Insta and Twitter. I’m still so new but Twitter is hostile and Insta has been a chore except for my mutuals. It doesn’t help I made rules for how I operate on those respective sites but I’m going to try and let this place just be a creative dump for me.
