Absolutely, the armed dad who stopped the school shooter in Bend acted heroically. So did the police who responded quickly. But this also needs to be said: "good guys with guns" and "active shooter drills" are reactive. We need much more active shooter PREVENTION www.motherjones.com/criminal-jus...

No doubt, guns play a role in shootings. But, as a gun owner, I would never, under almost any circumstance, consider using that tool to take human life. If we REALLY want to end gun violence, we should talk about psycho-social factors that led that person to commit violence, irrespective of the gun.

Hey California! Be careful this election because the big money creeps are trying to trick you (again).
There's a trap on your ballot in California. Here's how to get past it.
1. Prop 40: 250 billionaires pay with they owe so hospitals, schools, and food assistant survive the federal cuts. Vote yes.
2. Props 41 and 42: paid for by billionaires to cancel prop 40. Vote no.
3. Tell one person, because the confusion is the plan.
Yes I'm 40. No on 41 and 42.

Commodified fantasy takes no risks: it invents nothing, but imitates and trivializes. It proceeds by depriving the old stories of their intellectual and ethical complexity, turning their truth-telling to sentimental platitude.

There is a blue Prussian in my neighborhood, outdoor cat. Very charismatic. Walks out into the middle of the street when I cruise by on my bike and just plops down, demanding to be pet. Total Donut energy. Last thing we need is a Havana Brown.

I agree. Not my decision, but for us, losing funding would directly result in lives lost and people getting sick. Fortunately, we can still do the bulk of our mandate without those words. We use state funding when we need to use those words.

Well, if we don’t comply, they can withhold our funding and then absolutely no HIV/STI provider training happens in the State of Oregon. 😕

And this is in addition to the tome of other words we cannot use, like: cisgender transgender any reference to gender beyond male or female equity disparities racial or ethnic LGBTQ and countless others that fill a 14 page document.

We cannot mention those words or teach those concepts in any hiv prevention or treatment education. The U=U prohibition goes even further; we cannot make any connection that treatment is a form of prevention. It’s absolutely absurd.

VPN bans are a direct response to age-verification. Legislators are frustrated that people are getting around their surveillance, but rather than rethink their strategy, they're doubling down and banning VPNs. Fight the Flock-ing of the internet.

If the current administration can break all the rules and mandate his agenda at any cost, why can’t we have a progressive response just do the same thing, but with the sole and single goal to enact SINGLE PAYER HEALTHCARE FOR ALL and a REPEAL of CITIZENS UNITED? do that, and you have my vote…

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be. Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.

So if my math is right, the amount of money Trump made in 2025 alone (2.2 billion), is roughly equivalent to the combined net worth of all 44 other presidents at the peak of their wealth. (~2.5 billion). His current net worth, mostly from the last three years, is 3x all other presidents combined.

Here are three important things to know.
A court temporarily blocked key parts of the USPS rule that would restrict delivery of mail ballots. The court order means that, for now, the USPS rule implementing Trump’s executive order will not go into effect: states do not have to enroll voters in a national voter database, and USPS will not enforce new standards for ballot envelopes.
We will be in court next week to make sure the rule remains blocked. Our coalition will be in court on Sept. 3, arguing that this temporary order - which lasts for 14 days - should be extended while our case continues. Voting starts soon, and new rules could cause chaos and uncertainty.
Oregon elections will be safe, secure, and accurate in November and beyond. The Constitution is clear: the federal government cannot interfere with our elections. We will continue to uphold the law and ensure no one - not even the president - gets in the way of Oregon voters and our ballots.
