Well, this is awkward. I just found out If Jesus Were Gay & Other Poems was listed among books banned or challenged in Connecticut in 2023. The book came out in 2010. Nobody told me. 😂 If you’re going to challenge my poetry, at least notify the poet. I would’ve promoted it! #BannedBooks

#LGBTHistoryMonth throwback. Hard to believe this was 16 years ago, when Equality Forum honored me as an LGBT History Month Icon. Sixteen years later, I’m still here. Still writing. And sadly, still finding plenty of fodder. We were here. We are here. Our stories matter. youtu.be/pGzRn-a-G-A?...

It’s #BannedBooksWeek. For nearly 30 years, I’ve written openly about being queer and Latino, sex, survival, religion, HIV/AIDS, violence and love. Read queer books. Read Latino books. Read the books somebody else thinks you shouldn’t. Still, We Are Sacred: a.co/d/08FDNu8C

25 years ago today, I was working on Fifth Avenue when the unimaginable happened. In the days that followed, I wrote “September Song,” now preserved by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. For those we lost, those who survived, and the city I still love. Never forget. ❤️🗽

Circa 1998 with the House of Xavier, Willi Ninja, and his beautiful mom. My vision was never just ballroom. It was poetry, chosen family, and community. That journey eventually led to The Glam Slam and now Still, We Are Sacred. 📚 a.co/d/08FDNu8C

Throwback to 1998 or 1999 at an AIDS benefit in NYC with Rosie Perez. Pride wasn’t always corporate floats and rainbow merch. For many of us, it was activism, survival, and showing up for a community in crisis. Those experiences helped shape Still, We Are Sacred:
