Finished reading @aptshadow.bsky.social 's Shards of Earth last night. Very thoughtful and weird space opera. I had a wonderful time with it, though it took me until a third of the way in to get hooked. It was quite beautiful. Looking forward to reading the sequels.

My mom got diagnosed with a heart problem and will need to spend at least several weeks in hospital. I should probably feel more worried, but I'm mostly glad she actually went to get checked by a doctor of her own initiative. She's always so... callously resistant to the idea when I suggest it.

I read this whole book with a browser tab open to an online dictionary. Over three decades of near-constant use of English were clearly not enough to fully prepare me for this tale of space nobles scheming over future-sight cinnamon.
