Goodbye 2024! It’s been a challenging year. We lost our sweet puppy Gavin, work was a bit of a wasteland, and we all went through the election cycle😱…. but there was also learning, growth, & even a few unexpected gifts<3 Looking forward to a new start.

When I used to teach I tried to instill the idea of moving thru short projects, rather than ‘perfecting’ 1 endlessly. Working in commercials early on taught me the value of tons of short fast unique problems with time limits and varied personnel, then on to the next… it was a great way to learn! 👇🏻

I started as a fine art painter— mostly portraits. This is the “YOU STOLE FIZZY LIFTING DRINK, YOU GET NOTHING!!” Gene Wilder moment. I made a new drwng/ ptng of him every day for a while post undergrad. I’ll see if I can find more of them to share. Fun fact: actress Blake Lively owns this one!

From the pitch graveyard- after the tortoise & the hare race, slow & steady ruled above all, but now the Hare is trying to show that speed is good too! I wanted to use diagonals / Xs (like his ears) because they’re the fastest route between two points, vs rigid grids / horiz + verts to reinforce!

What I saw and heard this morning was bone chilling. And it was incredibly frustrating to feel like I had to try and convince the 911 operator that it was real and serious. She was terrified, there’s no world where it could have been a joke.

Yeah I’ve heard stories about parking lots and things, but what happened to me was on a busy block as I walked two blocks from my car to a restaurant to meet a friend for lunch. I think what stopped it was somebody yelled at the van for cutting them off, so they decide against it and drove off

I do too, I’ve been struggling with it all day— if or how I could have done more. It happened so fast and I don’t know that the police will ever call back to tell me if they found her…. It was awful and I can’t get her face or how she sounded out of my head.

Portland has a real problem with this kind of thing. Honestly, I was almost grabbed once by two guys in a van in the middle of the day here on a busy street. If you live in Portland, please be so careful when you go out, even in the day in busy places— this stuff really happens.

It seemed like I had to really work to get them to understand how urgent it was— I’ve never heard a person so scared and desperate— I don’t think I’ll ever forget her voice. I wish I could have read the plate better, been more prepared somehow, I’m SO scared for her.

It happened so fast, she made eye contact as she went past, I yelled back, I’ll get the plate, I’ll call the police” They were going os fast and swerving, I couldn’t see the full plate, just the first two numbers, 22. I called 911 and told them where I was and what had happened…

I was walking Gilda this morning and something really scary happened… I heard screaming through my headphones, and I took them off and saw a white van speeding down the street, a woman was reaching and screaming out the passenger window “Get the license plate, please call someone, HELP ME HELP ME”
