Ted Cruz on the existential threat posed by AI: "If there are gonna be killer robots, I’d rather they be American killer robots than Chinese killer robots.” So when a T-800 crushes your skull, be reassured that its foot will be proudly emblazoned with a "Made in America" logo.

Whatever punishment is given to the Cornell 7, it's not enough. The Epstein class was taught they could violate and destroy human beings and get away with it because their parents had money and power. Punishing the ones who got caught will not fix the underlying rot. The system has to be dismantled.

TiL the reason we can breathe oxygen: ~2.3 billion years ago a devious anaerobic Archaean snuck up on an unsuspecting aerobic bacterium and, through phagocytosis, absorbed it. That bacterium eventually became the mitochondria that provide energy to almost all living eukaryotic cells. Endosymbiosis!

“Just obey and you won’t get hurt” is what you tell hostages, not free people.

Perhaps some of the younger and less well-educated think about fascism like they think about measles or polio: "how bad can it be"? Sadly, as they FAFO, the consequences fall on all of us.

I have never felt the precious, fragile nature of our democracy more than I did last night as I cast my ballot. Let us never take it for granted. lt is amazing, equalizing, historically rare, and there are so many worse ways to be governed. Let us always cherish it, nurture it, and fight for it.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

In the future, when the last few humans are huddled in a cave in Antarctica trying not to boil to death, they'll look back at a time when the planet was clearly on fire and one orange guy was still saying, "drill, baby, drill" and they'll say, well yeah, that was stupid.
