Check out the newest publication from the CHIRP study (headed by the lovely Fiona Kouyoumdjian @macdeptmed.bsky.social). We FINALLY have a clear estimate of how many Canadian children have a parent in prison: 1 in 100,
Parental incarceration is recognized as an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), and previous research shows that children who experience parental incarceration tend to have worse physical and mental health compared to children who have not experienced parental incarceration.
This research study estimated the number and proportion of children who experienced parental incarceration between 2015 and 2021 in five Canadian provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.
We found that 169,740 children experienced parental incarceration in these provinces between 2015 and 2021.
Approximately 1 in 100 children (1.2%) younger than 18 years old in these provinces experienced parental incarceration per year.
The rate of children who experienced parental incarceration per total population in these provinces per year: 229/100,000, was 29% higher than the rate for the European Union.
Action is needed to prevent parental incarceration and to support the children and families who are affected by parental incarceration in Canada.

He asked someone to make and then picked to wear a shirt with his own name and title on it 😬. Like a toddler who loves his Special Thomas shirt because he IS Special Thomas and now everyone will for sure know he’s Special Thomas.

Wait, so he’s saying the core beliefs of the whole structure that is the US military are held up by one thing, which is ‘grooming standards’? Seems a bit cosplay-y, no?
"The Department must remain vigilant in maintaining the grooming standards which underpin the warrior ethos," Hegseth wrote in his memo.

p.s. Trump has a gold toilet in his Versailles-inspired apartment.
Trump downplayed warnings from retailers of product shortages and higher prices as the result his massive tarifs on Chinese imports, saying it would be okay if, as a result, children have fewer toys.
Somebody said, ‘oh the shelves are going to be bare.’ Well maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 you know?” Trump said during a meeting with his cabinet. “And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more than they would normally”

Thought I'd have a wee peak into my employer pension plan holdings and see that some calls to UPP are needed! Any fellow Ontario faculty who want to work on #TeslaTakedown, get in touch with UPP to voice your views about YOUR money being used to prop up Musk here: myupp.ca/contact-us/

Such a great illustration of the deep dissonance b/w Project 2025 and the rest of America, when its leaders legitimately haven’t heard of one of the country’s most celebrated current artists or the most popular song of the last year.

Oh he’s stepping in it now. Anyone who’s ever read anything about social policy knows that gov’ts can never, ever cut seniors services or income supports - the elders will rise with the anger and force of a thousand suns.

This is a normal response from your uncle who had AA Platinum status in the 90s and so thinks he’s got special insights into aviation systems. But not from the guy with access to every top experts, and who asked to be made responsible for the country’s systems and stability. It’s bonkers.

I *think* this is a real picture of this trend. And here's another: my friend who worked in this area told me there's a pod of resident orcas on the west coast who just refuse to eat anything but salmon, even if it limits their health, where other orcas have a more diverse diet. Culture!

LSA Chicago 2025 submission acceptance came through, but now identical emails keep arriving every single minute like the top of an abandoned tetris stack. Thoughts and prayers to the program assistant out there who's scrambling to find the right button...

This place is the cutest. I’ve been on here maybe 2 hrs and seen mainly pictures of nice pizzas and people remarking on how nice everyone is. Here is a picture of two woodpeckers who visited my backyard today.
