Yeahhhh. My guess is things were not great in that family for a while. ☹️

Same!! I was so pleased to find this interview with the guy! He sounds like a real character.

It is WILD (complimentary). Every time we drive past it we gawk. I don’t even know when it showed up. Maybe 10 years ago?? I have lived in Seattle for 18 yrs now, which feels like a VERY long time 😂

Oh that’s lovely!

There is an absolutely bonkers house RIGHT on I-5 in Capitol Hill in Seattle that is SO bizarrely decked out, and I feel like the folks that live there must either be the coolest people ever or flamboyantly awful. I suspect the former? www.fox13seattle.com/news/take-a-...

Take a tour of the eye-catching home next to I-5 in Seattle

If you're ever sat in Seattle traffic at night, chances are, you got a good view of a particularly peculiar glass home with flashing lights. Perhaps you've asked what it is and who lives there.

It should be! It feels like it to me too.

Yes, everything’s frozen, which is why MK is so terrified of a potential thaw in C—a CHANGE! Loss of what stability they’ve recovered after everyone’s death! Honestly, MK is such an obvious culprit, but this vulnerability makes me suspect she might not have been the killer.

I’m not saying I don’t understand what would lead a child who lost her whole family to do this sort of “spell casting”—I did that kind of thing too! But over different, lighter stuff, and not so creepily. And uh, not at 18

skELLY @ellyzoe.bsky.social · 7h

This is EXACTLY who Vance is. He does not appear have one single guiding moral other than “I’ll get mine”

It looks weird to me too but I dunno

000

skELLY @ellyzoe.bsky.social · 10h

lol. I got my English lit & CS degree in the 90s and I barely used the library. I had to buy books for my classes, and I was reading CONSTANTLY. (I uh did know where the bookstores were tho & frequently visited them—smaller, more manageable, and I didn’t want to return the books I chose anyway)

010

skELLY @ellyzoe.bsky.social · 10h

Right? Is this a grief thing? Is it a weird “wear the skins of your victims as victory” thing?? Whattttt is going onnnnn I know it’s bad but I don’t know how exactly

010

skELLY @ellyzoe.bsky.social · 12h

So seasonal!! How is it?

skELLY @ellyzoe.bsky.social · 12h

Whew M is so deeply insecure. 🥺 She badly needs things to be stable and unchanging; I think this is why she can’t handle the idea of C going into town. All the rituals and childlike magic to keep things safe too. 😢

Repeat after me: There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America (Bill Clinton at the height of his popularity). Without sanitizing American history, I still have faith in the American people as a whole. Let’s win by A LOT & then make big changes.

Yup. Both definitely a possibility I’m considering.

This is the SECOND thing I’ve read in a few days that brought to mind that transphobic trashfire “Buffalo Bill” character from Silence of the Lambs. ☹️☹️☹️ I don’t blame Shirley Jackson for it (I do blame the other author, at least a bit) but it’s not pleasant to be reminded

SCREAM! Everything about these people is creepy!! The decades of preserved food, just lining up there like a monument! Constance isn’t wrong about the old ones being deadly but also YIKES what a way to talk about it.

Screenshot of ebook.

All the Blackwood women had taken the food that came from the ground and preserved it, and the deeply colored rows of jellies and pickles and bottled vegetables and fruit, maroon and amber and dark rich green, stood side by side in our cellar and would stand there forev-er, a poem by the Blackwood women. Each year Constance and Uncle Julian and I had jam or preserve or pickle that Constance had made, but we never touched what belonged to the others; Constance said it would kill us if we ate it.

“on Thursday, which was my most powerful day, I went into the big attic and dressed in their clothes.” Her family’s, I assume. This feels so weird. The age feels wrong, for one (it’s more 10yo than 18??) and maintains the confusion about why she does it.

🏰 ch 3 I can’t tell if Merricat has all these strange rituals & beliefs & violent thoughts bc she is unhinged enough to murder her whole family &/or bc she was a kid whose whole family was murdered, potentially by her beloved sister.

Screenshot of ebook page:
On Sunday mornings I examined my safeguards, the box of silver dollars I had buried by the creek, and the doll buried in the long field, and the book nailed to the tree in the pine woods; so long as they were where I had put them nothing could get in to harm us.

Right? But even if it’s gas, prices have gone up more than a dollar a gallon—that doesnt even cover the price increase on a single fillup for pretty much any car.
