JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO GO BACK IN THE WATER… 🦈 I’ve had a brilliant time in Brighton today! I got to chat with some of my favourite politicians from across the country, as well as some from closer to home, including the lovely Cllr Dave Baigent 💚

Thank you everybody for all of your lovely messages 🙏 I took today off to rest, as yesterday was extremely draining… It’s been great to socialise with some of my Green friends from across the country in Brighton 💚

Today, I’ve resigned from the @greenparty.org.uk, as well as the Green Group on both the city and county council. I entered politics because I wanted to stand up for what’s right. I no longer feel that the Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire Green Party will allow me to do this.
Image: Text that reads; ‘Today, I’ve resigned from The Green Party, as well as the Green Group on both the city and county council. I entered politics because I wanted to stand up for what’s right. I no longer feel that the Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire Green Party will allow me to do this. Locally, my Green colleagues have pushed back against council housing in their own wards. I have been threatened for standing up for Palestinians and told that doing so is unimportant. Behind the scenes, I have been mocked for my neurodivergence. My loyalty will always be towards doing what’s right, not what’s convenient. I am excited to continue standing up for regular people across Cambridge ❤️’

Last night, I was lucky enough to meet one of my idols, Japanese author Nobuyuki Fukumoto 🀄️ It was an incredible experience, as his writing had a significant impact on my political development. He was also just a really lovely man 🥰🥰🥰

The Labour government FORCES councils to play chicken with Homes England to fund social housing, an issue I discussed at a recent full council meeting 🐓 There needs to be a fundamental change in how national government supports housebuilding across the country 🏡

Yesterday afternoon, I kayaked along the Anbo River 🛶 It was absolutely GORGEOUS 💚 When I got home, I worked on some questions for Cambridge City Council’s next full council meeting - I may not be able to make it there in person but I can still contribute ☺️

I don’t trust any politician without a bit of an adventurous streak 🤠 After all, politicians need to be SOCIALLY adventurous! I spent today hiking through the subtropical forests of Yakushima 🌴 Now that I’m home, I have an important application form to fill in… 📄

Kagoshima was fantastic! I particularly enjoyed seeing the trams, which even had their own merchandise 🚃 I want Cambridge to have a public transport system that it can be really proud of, too!

This Land, Cambridgeshire County Council’s “housing developer” (a charitable label given its lack of success at actually developing houses) has been a focus of mine for a while 🏠 Recently, I’ve considered what must be done to deal with this problem once and for all… Photo: 🐐🪣

When you take a train in Japan, you don’t have to worry about whether or not you need to pay an On-Peak, Off-Peak, or Super Off-Peak fare, fluctuating prices, what railcard to get, or avoiding routes operated by the wrong company; you just get on the train and GO 🚂

Let's get Palantir out of the NHS 🇵🇸 At the end of July, I, along with my colleagues, wrote to Cllr Liam Dewey-Beckett, Chair of the Health Scrutiny Committee, to ask for assistance with this task. We need to all work together if we're to get rid of Palantir locally 💚
Image: A letter sent to Cllr Liam Dewey-Beckett. The main body of text reads; ‘Cambridgeshire County Council’s Health Scrutiny Committee does fantastic work holding our local integrated care board, now the Central East Integrated Care Board, to account. We are particularly pleased to hear that there is cross party concern over the role of Palantir in NHS services locally, a topic that the committee have already engaged with. While NHS England have said that the NHS Federated Data Platform run by Palantir will not put residents’ privacy at risk, we sadly disagree. Groups including Amnesty International have highlighted serious concerns over how patient data is handled, endorsing Medact’s briefing which examines this subject in greater depth. Moreover, Palantir has played a pivotal role in enabling Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza. Recently, a UN commission of inquiry concluded that Israel has committed war crimes against the Palestinian people, likely making Palantir complicit in the breach of international humanitarian law. Should potential criminals be trusted with the personal information of local residents? There can be no equivocation; Cambridgeshire County Council must put pressure on the Central East Integrated Care Board to terminate its relationship with Palantir. We hope that you will place this on the agenda for a future meeting.’ ✉️

Local government reorganisation has finally stalled 🚗 Yesterday, I made sure to read up on the announcement…
Image: A graphic containing a quote from me, originally published yesterday. It reads; ‘Local government reorganisation has been a disaster from start to finish. Today's announcement is simply the culmination of this process, which has lacked conviction from the outset. Our city's residents deserve better. With councils across the country investing heavily into preparing for reorganisation, it's disheartening to see council taxes flushed down the drain' 😡

Cambridge City Council do not own a market. They may own a market square, but a market is an interaction between people. The council’s inability to see this shows the shallow reification that dominates our thinking…
