We’re the End Partner Income Testing campaign, fighting for the abolition of partner income testing. Today we met with advisers from Tanya Plibersek’s office. More updates to come after our team debrief. Elle, Laura & Sophia @sophiaredjeb.bsky.social

Services Australia calls this “romantic.” Thousands lose financial independence for falling in love. The Partner Income Test punishes relationships. #EndPartnerIncomeTesting #auspol #disablity #dv

PIT campaign update: We have a meeting with DSS policy advisors coming up to discuss Partner Income Testing. We’ve covered a lot of ground, but if there’s something you think needs to be raised, we’d love to hear it. Comment below. we’ll do our best to take your concerns to them.

Another refusal from Tanya Plibersek. No meeting. No adviser. No staff contact. Partner Income Testing keeps disabled people and vulnerable women financially dependent, yet those affected continue to be denied a voice. #auspol @tanyaplibersekmp.bsky.social

I’m Elle Sanders, co-founder of Pit. I raised Partner Income Testing with the PM. It was referred back to the department enforcing it. Financial dependency written into law is a safety issue.

A lot has been happening behind the scenes. The work is underway and it’s not stopping.

The Partner Income Test violates the UN CRPD by stripping disabled people of autonomy and forcing financial dependence on partners. Disabled people are adults, not extensions of someone else’s income. #endpartnerincometest #pit #welfare

I didn’t come to advocacy through theory. I came through lived experience. Financial dependence becomes control. That’s why the Partner Income Test is dangerous.

Australia’s welfare rates are below the poverty line by design. Then we means-test people against partners who may not share money, safety, or stability. This isn’t about “budget repair.” It’s about controlling who deserves to survive.

Your own words recognise financial control as abuse and dignity as a right. The Partner Income Test violates both. That’s not inconsistency it’s harm. @tanyaplibersekmp.bsky.social

When the system knows you’re drowning and tightens the grip anyway, that’s not governance. it is cruelty dressed up as policy.

So what is the government going to do about this? Nothing. That’s why advocates are stepping in and we’re not backing down.

Someone asked why people on DSP or other payments should get the full rate if their partner earns 80k. Because disability is individual. Support isn’t shared income. A partner’s wage isn’t guaranteed or safe to rely on. #endpartnerincometesting #PIT

#endpartnerincometest #uppayments #PIT No one should have to prove they’re “poor enough” to deserve safety. The Partner Income Test is a system failure.

When people ask me about such things.. have you seen the state of the world …

The Partner Income Test produces trauma, not support. When a government maintains a policy that forces dependence and causes PTSD, it isn’t neutral it’s complicit.
