Oh I know dw. I bought this P7 Pro a few years ago now second hand for slightly more than a replacement OLED would cost, and the battery was shot already! Not worth replacing with OEM parts. It'll be a useful backup or guest phone tbh. Also the LCD runs SO WARM when it's bright, it's so stupid

New phone arrives tomorrow thankfully. It's a refurbished Pixel 8 Pro, I've been using refurb Pixel phones for a decade now basically. Very very much looking forward to being able to see colours on a phone again.

Here's the best demonstration I have of the touchscreen polling using Swype (remember that?) style typing. This is a slow one cos it just doesn't work when I Swype normally. Oh also! The phone is now so thick that the new screen PROTRUDES PAST THE CASE 🔥

Kinda love it. It pisses me off so much that I'm actively avoiding my phone. Great success!

Lads. It adds 50% more thickness to the phone and about the same in weight, the front facing camera is now unusable, the touchscreen polls at TEN HERTZ so typing is miserable and every colour is wrong and desaturated. It came with only metal tools and adhesive worse than foam craft tape.

It's not OLED. Didn't expect it to be, no worries. No fingerprint reader, same deal. Not 90Hz, who cares?

Smashed my phone screen in a very unlucky drop. Phone on last legs anyway so got the cheapest screen I could until I get a replacement refurb phone posted. Shout out to INCELL UK for the biggest piece of shit screen I have ever, ever used lmao, but it was £20 and arrived in 18hr so all good.

The Orange Order can compromise and have their march, from the same starting point to the same ending point if they wanted. But they don't. Because there ARE people who want to rip up the peace process, and that list has the Orange Order at the top! Compromise is what's been happening for 28 years!!

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 28/09/2026
If they force the Orange Order parade down the Garvaghy Road today or any other day, I'm afraid the complete collapse of the government of Northern Ireland will seem almost cute compared to the rest of the utter shitstorm that engulfs this place.

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 28/09/2026
I will say, it's genuinely impressive that the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland is this shit. We're not new to an SoS who's a bit clueless about NI's ~cultural complexities~ but this one is knocking it out of the park. Absolute balloon.

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 28/09/2026
I'm all too familiar with the shortcomings of the results of the peace process. But we should be preparing for unity because it is basically written in stone that the legal thresholds for triggering a border poll will be met. If we plan for it, it can work.

The standoff continues today. Local news is reporting that sources say the OO are "confident" they'll get to do their march today. Basically nothing has changed since yesterday though, except more people are aware and more people are furious. The NI government is on the brink of collapse.

Don't you think the vast majority of your neighbours in Co Meath are good, decent people? Why would my neighbours up north be any different? The vast majority of them are good people *despite* a lifetime of exposure to bigotry and malice.

You'd think that the commission would think twice about putting their hand in the fire given the evidence that their predecessors got their hands burned every time. But maybe they're just optimists. Who knows. Jesus wept.

It could theoretically be true that they had no intel that there would be an issue. However, I'd imagine the algae suffocating Lough Neagh would be able to come to the conclusion that it's basically a given that there would be

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
That's what I meant, yeah. It's important to them but it's also 2026 and we are nearly 3 decades into the theoretical reality of everyone making compromises to maintain an uneasy peace. They've picked the most out in the open, fluorescent land mine to jump on because that's what they do.

The police service is there with riot shields and batons, undoubtedly with "less lethals" too. Are they gonna force the protesting crowd off the road to allow the march? There's UK MPs in the crowd, elected reps from Stormont, Irish TDs too. Catastrophic self injury for NI authorities to touch them

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
Not a clue. The idea that the Orange Order being allowed to march the route that sparked the unbelievably violent Drumcree standoff, 28 years after the peace agreement, is "lowering tension" is an idea based in complete cultural incompetence.

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
I don't think the NI government will survive this, I have more doubts than ever that the rest of our institutions will recover either. The reaction from the new Labour Secretary of State for NI doesn't bode well either. Just a shambles.

Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
This demonstrates the complaints of your political enemies, committed Irish republicans, who say NI cannot move past this crap while it remains in the UK. More importantly for the unionist cause though, it turns the vast majority of the "undecided" against you. This road leads to Irish unity.
21015
Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
If Unionists want NI to remain part of the United Kingdom - for NI to exist at all - this is not how you do that. This turns people against you, and for good reason. Nobody wants this shit.

Portadown is where the first Loyal Orange Lodge was founded. I don't discount that Drumcree is important to them. But the Orange Order is also a sectarian hate brigade that's inexorably linked to paramilitary violence over the years. They're bigots through and through.
413014
Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
That happened at the height of the Drumcree standoff in 1998, AFTER the Good Friday Agreement peace deal was signed in April that year. The NI Parades Commission is responsible for governing parades since 1998 and they gave 11th-hour consent for the contentious route on Friday. Unforgivable.
2995
Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
The OO could march from where they start their route to where they end it, no problem, just by choosing basically any other route. They want this route because it's antagonistic, because it's outrageous. Most famously, three children, the Quinn brothers, were murdered in a firebombing attack.
11257
Ellen Murray @ellenfromnowon.co.uk · 27/09/2026
For the uninitiated, the Orange Order (notoriously sectarian organisation) has been, for the first time since the 1998 NI peace agreement, been allowed to march through a predominantly Catholic part of the town of Portadown. This march has led to so much violence and many murders over the years.

Dark day back home, lads. Drumcree standoff in 2026 wasn't on my predictions for this year. Wouldn't be surprised if in 20 years from now, this is seen as one of the cascading moments that led to the end of Northern Ireland.

Waiting for my lovely girlfriend to finish their dance class while chilling in the sun and catching up on work emails. Picked up a few things for the flat from the Everything Shop I like in Edinburgh. Life is good, better than it's been in many years. Feels like the clouds are lifting :)

Started a new prescribed ADHD medication today whose information sheet says they've no idea if it's safe for adults and the pills look exactly like dodgy ecstasy pills you'd be sold by a teenager in 2003. I feel like my eyes are in front of my brain, if you know what I mean. They work!

I got used to the woke brussels bureaucrat tethered bottle caps really fast and since I live in N Ireland (still under the caring boot of Brussels), going to Scotland is a constant humiliation ritual because half the caps aren't tethered. Opening a bottle with abandon is such a gamble over there.

I've witnessed a new type of evil: the perfume section of the airport duty free is already a hostile environment. Edinburgh Airport has a live DJ blasting electronic music through a PA system in the middle of it right now. Stop this at once.

After much experimentation, the perfect fried rice has been mastered. Perfect egg char flavour from letting it burn just a little. Shallots. Fermented garlic. Whallop of msg. Fish sauce. Black rice vinegar. Peas and scallions. Day old jasmine rice. It is perfect and my whole apartment smells amazing
