Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Regent Parrots at Wyperfeld National Park in Victoria’s Northwest. They're fast flyers and almost got away... 😅 #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 193

Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 01/09/2026And then I thought "surely somebody has already listed Collared Sparrowhawk". Nope. So, here's mine, another spring surprise from my local park. It didn't give me long to get a photo. 😉 #BirdSeenIn2026 #Australia 020
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Who would have thought that on the first day of (Australian) spring I could add a Pallid Cuckoo from my local park. #BirdSeenIn2026 #Australia 131
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Found two Fairy Terns at the Western Treatment Plant near Melbourne today. Also a Bonus-Rakali. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 062
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 08/06/2026Found the White-fronted Honeyeater about one hour West of Melbourne. It obligingly frequented the shrubs at exactly the spot where it was supposed to be (but wasn't yesterday). These birds rarely make it this far South but this one has been around for some time now. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0132
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 04/06/2026Unbelievably, the vagrant House Crow is still alive and well in South Melbourne. House Crows are classed as "Agricultural Pest" in Australia. It hangs out at a busy street corner with lots of pedestrian and car traffic, which may be why it hasn't been dealt with yet. #BirdsSeenIn2026, #Australia 052
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 20/04/2026Two Eastern Cattle Egret roosting at Kororoit Creek Mouth in Hobsons Bay/Melbourne alongside Little Pied, Pied and some Headless Cormorants. 😉 A little while later a Pacific Gull landed further along on the same roost. #BirdsSeenin2026 #Australia 093
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 08/04/2026My first Flame Robin of the year. As we are moving towards winter, Flame Robins move down from the high country to lower lying open areas and grassland, and we get to enjoy them near Melbourne. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0265
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Turquoise Parrots near Winton Wetlands (Central-North Victoria). #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 042

Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 07/04/2026From our Easter Camping weekend at Winton Wetlands (Central-North Victoria): Pied Butcherbird, Hooded Robin and Noisy Friarbird. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 052
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 31/03/2026On the way to the Western Treatment Plant (Melbourne) I swung by the aptly named "Banded Lapwing Paddock". #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 032
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 30/03/2026Also lovely to spot a couple of Emus on the sporting oval in Halls Gap/Grampians (Western Victoria). #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 092
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 30/03/2026Visited Halls Gap in the Grampians for a wedding on the weekend and spotted this Forest Raven. Forest Ravens have a heftier bill and a proportionally shorter tail than the other two corvids in the area. The call is a bit different too. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 031
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 30/03/2026Finally caught up with the usually more reliable Spotless Crake at Newport Lakes in Melbourne. It had continually evaded me during my last few visits. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0103
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 23/03/2026The reason for today's trip to the Western Treatment Plant/Melbourne was the Ruff that was seen there. Found it. Can't find it in the bird list, so it may be a first in the comp for Australia, which would be fitting as it's my first one too. 🤩 #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 182
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 23/03/2026Average photo of a Red-necked Stint from today's quick trip to the Western Treatment Plant/Melbourne. Turns out I had actually seen one in February already but don't seem to have posted it, so I'm adding that photo as well. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0105
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 22/03/2026From today's walk at Serendip Sanctuary near Melbourne: Black-chinned Honeyeater. This is the South-Eastern subspecies Melithreptus gularis gularis. The Northern one (spp laetior) has a greenish-yellow "eyeshadow" and its back is more golden than olive. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0142
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 20/03/2026A birding friend messaged me about a Common Sandpiper in Melbourne. So, off I went to find it feeding amongst rocks and rubbish. Not happy with the location but happy to see this cute bird with its bopping tail. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 053
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 19/03/2026Very happy to spot this female (or young type) Rose Robin at Newport Lakes in Melbourne this afternoon. (Had initially thought it was a Pink Robin, but was corrected by a more experienced birder.) #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 1124
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 19/03/2026Also at Newport Lakes/Melbourne this afternoon: Grey Butcherbird. They are quite common and have a lovely song. Despite living in the city I often hear one near home. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 092
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 18/03/2026From yesterday's walk at Yalukit Willam Reserve in Melbourne: Noisy Miner and and a pair of Maned Ducks (formerly Australian Wood Duck). #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 1213
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 14/03/2026Early(ish) birding at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne. Feral Pigeon / Columba livia (domestica). #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0112
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 14/03/2026I had been hoping for a better photo of the Rainbow Bee-eaters near Melbourne, but it was not to be(e). Looks like they are about to leave for their journey North. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0102
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Common Starling in Melbourne. This introduced species is not well liked here and regarded as an agricultural pest. That aside, they are quite beautiful birds and their murmurations are amazing to watch. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 1124
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 11/03/2026Hardhead and juvenile European Goldfinch (introduced to Australia) from today's outing to Westgate Park, Melbourne. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 062

Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 04/03/2026Was lucky to find the reported Australian Rufous Fantail at Newport Lakes in Melbourne. Not the most perfect photo, but perfectly recognisable. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0112
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 01/03/2026Here are some more common birds from today's birdwalk in Melbourne: Welcome Swallows, Common Blackbird (introduced to Australia), Eurasian Coot. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 082
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 28/02/2026Some blurry birds from today's outing with BirdLife Bayside to the Mornington Peninsula, South-east of Melbourne: Hooded Plover, Fan-tailed Cuckoo and Brown Goshawk (juvenile). #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 052
Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 24/02/2026Visited Serendip Sanctuary near Melbourne earlier in February. These Red-browed Finches drop in and out of the (mostly empty) enclosures for a feed. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 0112

Elke Link @elkie64.bsky.social · 24/02/2026After I have been sending photos to @leitchbird.bsky.social for the "BirdsSeen Challenge" for some time, it was time to finally create my own profile. My first post is of a Brown Quail from a couple of weeks ago in a Melbourne Park. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Australia 3143
