The number of new books coming out by my favorite authors this month is almost like a book fair high.

We're currently cooking our way through the Stardew Valley Cookbook, only to discover today that there's going to be a Stardew Valley Crochet Book coming out in January. Do I know how to crochet? No. Will I by January? I'd better. The kid demands a void chicken.

Tired of procrasti-cleaning instead of writing? Try knitting! You're still not writing, but you might end up with a hat or something.

We're currently watching Chip 'n Dale from 1989 with the kid. It's making me realize how eye-wateringly bright cartoons are now, especially the ones targeted at younger kids. Someone needs to bring back more normal colors.

First bookmail of the school year. This year's focus is American History, which my partner will be teaching. I'm taking over science, since I took a surprising number of Biology classes in college. Bring on the frog dissection! #secularhomeschool

My son was in one of these classrooms. He came home with bruises from restraint. His teacher didn't have a class library because "books become projectiles." By the end of fourth grade, he couldn't spell his own name, let alone write a sentence. His IEP wasn't even EBD, probably because we're white.

Why emotional disturbance, a special ed category, is a double-edged sword for students
Every school has problem students, but some are labeled emotionally disturbed (ED) and taught separately from others.

Autistic Barbie lives with us now, complete with aac. She’s even wearing flats!

I just finished season 1 of the secret lives of Mormon housewives last night. I thought this was going to be more relief society drama and snide remarks about whose kid isn’t going on a mission. Not “I’m fighting the church patriarchy by being sexy.”

It’s been 0 days since a homeschooling related injury. The shame is bigger than the cut.

1035 words written to start off 2026. I let my writing slip during the brr months, as my brain cannot tell the difference between waning daylight and actual dying, but the light is returning and so am I!

A little late, but this is the only advent calendar I cared about this year. Less chocolate, more murder.

Coming back from fall break scheduled during Halloween is the homeschooling equivalent of a hangover. My lessons? Unplanned. All of the stuff I needed to print out? Done between subjects. Was Halloween candy used as a bribe? No comment.

Daily word count:685 WIP: She Plants A Vineyard I finally crossed 20k today. I went into October with a little too much optimism. One of these years I’m going to remember how busy this month actually is.

Considering we’re having to run the heater now, Norse mythology feels timely. I also got some help from The Kid on setup. He says he understands what the internet wants. #secularhomeschool

WIP: She Plants A Vineyard Daily word count: 1111 Writing a novel set during the golden age of mommy blogging is making me nostalgic for the pre-TikTok world. Going down a blog rabbit hole was so much more fun than the algorithm force feeding me rage bait and sponcon.

Slow writing day. Daily word count: 639 WIP: She Plants A Vineyard But did I relax in the warm autumn sunlight, enjoying the pops of oranges and reds that are now appearing? Not a chance, but we did read another two chapters of The Trumpet of the Swan.

First book mail of the homeschool year. I love the feeling of getting books but knowing we still have over a month of summer break left. #secularhomeschool
