Soooooo I've been working on a soft outline/glow shader I'll be releasing soon. It gets applied directly to the model's materials, and is everyday usable performance wise! It's not 100% perfect, but pretty close :D This is in a scene with no bloom:

Leona went from 70k-ish triangles to just under 20k for quest. Surprisingly little had to be sacrificed. Some bits could be baked into the texture to save on polys, some were more crucial to the silhouette and stayed. It wasn't easy, but I'm surprised at how much we managed to fit #b3d #vrchat

I've been tinkering with making a bead shader for #VRChat. Each bead is a little billboard, which means this whole bracelet can be just 72 tris. The beads can also be weighted to clothing, etc. Got nerd sniped by @elizacg.com who showed me that the new Nikki game does something similar.

I think in 2025 the amount of free 3D assets I make for VRChat will drop significantly. There seems to be more and more people that only complain. It's free. Enjoy it. What's so hard about that?

Using Bakery in your worlds and want to use that lightmap specular, but it looks too blocky and makes you not want to use it? Switch L1 (directional lightmap) from DXT1/BC1 (normal quality) to BC7 (high quality). For some reason Unity's own lightmapper does it by default, but Bakery doesn't.
