When you had to get up at 6am to catch a train, second breakfast of pancakes and maple syrup at 11am goes down nicely, with a glass of chardonnay, especially when the scenery outside your cabin looks like this. The countryside south of Hamilton and weather on NZ's North Island today are beautiful.

Update: Meta backed down on training their gen ai on any website shared on their platforms. Public backlash for the win!

Gist of text: Today Meta removed language from their TOS that would have allowed them to scrape any website associated or connected with Meta to train gen ai.

Kia ora! Its been a glorious sunny in Auckland. Whale watching was mostly distant spouts of water & snatches of back, but it was lovely. I had a nice evening CBD wander too, and was glad my favourite trees from living here in 2019 are alive, well & still making pedestrians choose; over or under.

And maybe ask everyone you know to NEVER link to your website/ book etc on Meta/ Insta, because on second reading; Meta say ANYTHING linked to on FB/ Insta can be used to train their gen ai. Copyright? Legality? Who are they? -ask Meta. 🤬

D2D introducing their annual fee for low earning authors certainly hasn't helped, but I think I'm happy with Kobo (Kobo Plus, overdrive and their national partners), direct (Payhip) and Itch.

I've suggested before that small businesses make yourselves accessible by having a website you OWN and CONTROL & EVERYONE can access, not just FB page or Insta. Today I suggest deleting your FB & Insta accounts, if you have a website or other online content they can & will train their gen ai on.

As a teacher I suspect that's the case. There's definitely a pattern of the child's diagnosis prompting a parent to get diagnosed. I've even had conversations with adults who say, 'but that's normal, I do that, I'm not... oh wait, maybe I'm autistic/ ADHD/ AuDHD too!'

You're welcome. I'm lucky the dog alerted me to their presence, as from inside I only here them when they jump onto the roof. I do have to do that sometimes. The mother crawled straight out the lemon tree when Dav barked, but the baby sat eating and watching me from a meter away.

Lucky you were there. They nest in a tree in our backyard, in a palm, densely surrounded by another leafy tree. I've never seen the nest, but when we cat sat, the same cat scared a possum out of the same patch of trees on 3 different days in daylight, so its definitely in there.

Went to see what the dog was barking at. It was this little cutie nibbling on the lemon tree blossoms. Its not much longer my hand and wrist, so a fairly young baby ringtail possum. Its paws are blurred because they were in constant motion, too quick for my phone's camera speed.

Doctors like this are worth their weight in gold. When you're chronically ill, having a doctor with proper listening skills can be a big difference in getting diagnosed, or not, treatment or not, and to your quality of life. I'm very fortunate my doctor is one of these.

Makes sense, gen ai seeming as beneficial to our cognitive, social and emotional skills, and the 'health' of our planet as cancer is to our lungs, throat, body etc. Not to mention just as addictive and as vulnerable to emotional dependence.
