White text on blue: When they shoot me, they will tell you I was violent. They will say I meant them harm, even if I was waving them safely by, even if I smiled and told them I was not angry right before the agent pointed his gun at my face. They will say there was intent in my heart and for that they had to pull the trigger. Will you believe them then, even though you know me? When they shoot me in the face and leave my three children shattered, will you believe I was a threat? Will you say I should have just let them do their job, even though you know me and how my heart breaks for my friends, the ones I’ve told you are not criminals, the moms who just want to buy groceries without fear, the men who want to provide for their families, the kids who were tear-gassed outside a school, will you say I should not have been out there, fighting for them because that was interfering and interfering is reason for bullets? When they shoot me, will you say I should not have reminded my friends that they have rights? When they shoot me, will you say I should not have recorded the agents’ actions, reciting out loud, “I have the right to record, I am not interfering” just like I’ve been trained just like I’ve trained others, because the first amendment isn’t as important as staying quietly at home? When they tell the doctors “no” and the medics “stay back” while my life runs out of my veins will you say they had a reason? When I am shot will you say I shouldn’t have been out there, because yes, it’s sad, but they are just doing their jobs? Just doing their jobs. Just following orders. Will you still believe them when it’s me?

If you are looking for a fun read this Indigenous People’s Day, try an alternate history where Atahualpa discovers Europe. My nerdy little Peruvian heart was continuously delighted reading Civilizations, then I got mad when it ended.

I want more Maria Ressa content! Listening to those who have lived through this (and the worse that follows) feels like sanity. I’m glad I’m not the only one, even if I have to wait!

The Ohio House has proposed eliminating The Public Library Fund (20% of the @columbuslibrary.bsky.social budget, and higher in other library systems.) OH libraries would lose $100 million. Remaining funds would be tied to materials restrictions, like removing any LGBTQ+ content from Childrens areas.

Don’t cut my library’s funding.

So great to have @scalzi.com and @maryrobinettekowal.com at the @columbuslibrary.bsky.social today! My favorite bit was the answer to this question: how do you write about something you don’t know? Scalzi: as a straight white man, I make shit up. Kowal: As a woman, I also need it to be correct. 😂

timesofsandiego.com/crime/2025/0... This article about disinformation capitalizing on the fear and insecurity around the wildfires is excellent.
Text from article:
•If you find yourself becoming very frightened or angry by a narrative that seems to play on existing biases, such as unexamined racism or misogyny, check your sources; it is very likely that you are being emotionally manipulated into accepting a lie
•Question your own biases when something presented without proof “feels” legitimate
Write down things that you want to remember; don’t rely on random online sources
•Remember when a public figure has made claims in bad faith in the past, and use that as a guide to their present and future behavior

I have to admit that I have been very worried about how my books will make it out there, especially in a few particular states. So THANK YOU Texas librarians for choosing Tethered To Other Stars, my story about community action and immigrant justice, for your state list!!! I’m SO thrilled.🥹

Let’s see some pics of dogs with ALT TEXT, throw ‘em up folks, friends and fam!
Picture of a dog standing on the sidewalk on a fall day with a glowing sun beginning to set through the leaves behind her. She is a straight-haired, creamy white labradoodle with a wavy beard, a pink harness and black leash. She is looking at the camera with a wise expression. Same dog with Autumn sunset, but here she is raising her face to the sky, eyes half-closed as though pondering deep secrets of the universe. If she had fingers, she would be stroking her beard pensively.

My very queer book about a social chameleon, her people-pleasing web of lies, her new enby crush, some quirky comic club library nerds, their drag queen storytime, her chaotic twin brothers and her secret sci-fi webcomic about a cyborg revolutionary comes out in 4 days! 💙📚 Please show Mal some 💕🦾🌈
A colorful book titled MALLORY IN FULL COLOR, with quotes from reviews. “Compassionate and Imaginative” (Publishers Weekly) “There’s a lot to love here” (BCCB starred review) “A must read for young readers” (SLJ starred review) “A sincere cautionary tale” (Kirkus Reviews) Several comic characters surround the reviews- an adorable two-headed alien cat, a cyborg girl, and two robots.
