To me, the argument for HS2 was the inverse of the argument for Heathrow third runway. The existing trains are at their maximum capacity - but the planes aren’t all 747s/A380s. It would be like running mostly five-carriage trains on the WCML and claiming it’s full.

I accompanied my then-boss to a parliamentary event she was speaking at, alongside Michael Gove. He spent most of his speech looking at me in the audience (positioned at the front to take a photo of my boss speaking), making it one of the most terrifying experiences of my life.

I think we’re deep in an ignorance crisis, caused primarily by people’s phone addiction - for example, the two (three?) people having a full blown conversation on the pavement outside my (open) bedroom window at 0630 this morning. It was still dark!
