So if AI output can't be copyrighted how does this mesh with the push to use it in art and media? Like if the theoretical Tilly Norwood movie would be in the public domain, if I understand what you're saying, how do they hope to make any money off it?

> neither is anything which comes out of it What does this mean? Like the Tilly Norwood character can't be copyrighted?

Like the idea that you would spin up a swarm of hundreds of these things to do a task and then wink them back out of existence, but also think they deserve moral standing seems insane to me!

> hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing I know some AI boosters believe the LLMs are conscious or reasoning, for certain values of conscious or reasoning, but this is I think the first I've heard a tech leader say they should have moral standing? Is that a typical view?

Nuclear thermal rocket! Run your reaction mass past a reactor and blast it out the back of the ship! There were some experiments during the Cold War but none have ever flown. This is how the ships in 2001: A Space Odyssey fly
Image from the wikipedia article for Nuclear Thermal Rocket. It is captioned thus:

"1 December 1967: The first ground experimental nuclear rocket engine (XE) assembly is shown here in "cold flow" configuration, as it makes a late evening arrival at Engine Test Stand No. 1 in Jackass Flats, Nevada. The engine is in the left background with a shield structure in the mid/foreground."

One of my fav posts I've never found again was the guy who tripped on acid or peyote or something and had a spiritual vision of his car telling him to do better keeping up on oil changes

First book has one of the hardest wizard duels in YA lit! [Deuteragonists are fighting an evil wizard on the moon. Girl is easily tanking laser blasts from the wizard] Boy: How are you doing that?? Girl: A year of my life per shot!

(This isn't a 'dnd problem' of course, it's how every rpg works, it reproduces its rules at the table, it's just dnd is the most dominant so its type of stories are dominant in ttrpgs)

eliksmith.bsky.social @eliksmith.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
It also *produces* conservative art. You can be at the queerest coziest most antifa table you can imagine and the dnd rules will reliably produce a story about personal glory and justified violence!

Dungeons And Dragons maybe not the best conservative art, but certainly the most dominant within a particular art form. It's like if 95% of moviegoers had only ever seen Superman movies and also could only interpret film in general through the lens of Superman

I had never heard of this thing and having read the wiki page "ancient submarine for which no record exists" is for sure a cursed object, perhaps summoned by Confederates making pacts with demonic forces
The wikipedia file photo for the Bayou St John submarine. A crude oblong of riveted iron, with a fin and propeller sticking off the back. It looks spooky

It's also metal as fuck. The Pequod is a horrible ancient thing, a"cannibal of a craft", "one continuous jaw" of whale-teeth belaying pins.

It's too bad cause I think it's totally possible to respectfully draw from native american stories for modern western tall tales. We should be talking about how our friend's friend's cousin for real saw Spearfinger one time en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spearfi...

A film that seems unawareof the bleakness of its own premise. Abrams wrote a story where everything's just like the old days, but that means everyone's a broken and old version of what they were when they were young.

I have pondered this when reading about the early communists. They couldn't have imagined the modern consumer identity. Imaging a postcapitalist society, is it even possible to leave the identity of "consumer" behind when faced with the sheer scale of modern production vs independent artisanship?

Fuuuuck he's an "I listen to everything but country" doofus. Also I'm probably projecting because fuck these people but the mood between Rubio and his wife seemed icey. Like that "she never let's me choose the music in the car haha!" "That's not true." did not seem like fun banter.
