It is usually a very popular trail, but the weather, hour, and time of year meant we were completely alone for the second half of it. Horsetooth is the icon of my city, Fort Collins. It gets lots of attention and love.

A late afternoon hike with the missus up Horsetooth Falls turned a bit rainy, washing away all the other hikers, leaving the woods all to us and the animals. Isolation is a dangerous balm, but often a healing one for us.

Cat update: Puck and Pan have finally began to interact normally after over a week of violent fights and puffy-tailed avoidance. They are able to eat side-by-side, smell each other, and have even play-chased without escalation. There is still some hissing and growling, but the stress is way down.

I finished Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar shortly after Lupercalia - a heart-wrenching semi-biographical confessional novel about the shame of a woman in the 1960's who finds it impossible to conform to the norms of her time. Read this book if you've ever felt like you were born wrong.
