Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 20/11/2024My blog post from last year about MOSAIC in case you have questions about that. www.elidourado.com/p/personal-a...elidourado.comPersonal aviation is about to get interestingFAA is getting one enormously consequential thing right 120
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 20/11/2024Then you also need to design it to be mass manufactured. I think there is an opportunity with MOSAIC to build a $50k airplane that goes totally mainstream. Other people who are thinking along similar lines, assemble. 140
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 20/11/2024The second thing required is market scale. You need simplified flight controls (allowed by MOSAIC) to expand the market for personal aviation so that new people enter the market so that you can sell many units and get economies of scale in manufacturing. 120
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 20/11/2024For one, type certification needs to go afuera. This is already happening with the MOSAIC rule for aircraft that qualify for that (basically, have a low clean stall speed). 110
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 20/11/2024A Honda Civic EX costs $27k and weighs 1,650 kg, for $20/kg. An airplane is not more complex than a car, but it costs 40x as much per kg. What would it take to build an airplane for $25/kg? 120
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 20/11/2024I've become kind of obsessed with how to get the cost of personal aircraft down. Example: A new Cirrus SR22 costs around $1.1 million and weighs 1,111 kg without fuel. Call it $1,000/kg. A Tesla Model Y (long range AWD) costs around $50k and weighs around 1,980 kg. Call it $25/kg. 3252

Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 02/07/2023With some battery innovation, autonomy, and the new eVTOL designs, grueling all-day drives could be a thing of the past. 030
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 02/07/2023I drove 8+ hours today, and then looked up how much a charter flight for the same route (local airport) would be. Under $6k round trip for 4 passengers in a PC-12. Not quite affordable but cheaper than I expected. If we had had more innovation in aviation over the last 50 years, it could work. 120

Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 09/05/2023It doesn’t seem that anybody so far is building a Tweetbot-style client for Bluesky, but I hope somebody does! 220
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 09/05/2023Posted on bird site: I want a simple chronological timeline without threading, and I want the app to save state about location within that timeline across relaunches and devices. I had that with Tweetbot, but then Twitter disabled third-party clients, and my experience has been worse since. 240
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 05/05/2023There are no chess nerds on bsky, I posted the same skeet on bird site and it did numbers. 110

Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 03/05/2023Unfortunately bsky doesn’t have video uploads yet, so you have to go to bird site to watch video of a Ukrainian drone exploding inside the walls of the Kremlin. Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 03/05/2023Is it possible to expose how many users are blocking a given user? Maybe it should be listed alongside followers and following on users’ profiles. Like a decentralized reputation score. @jay.bsky.team 160
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 02/05/2023Walking my dog this morning, I saw a Lamborghini Urus parked on the street. I am completely baffled as to why anyone would buy such a thing. I get wanting a Lambo. A Lambo SUV feels like such a waste, though. 110
Eli Dourado @elidourado.com · 02/05/2023Thinking about the future of AT Protocol, it seems that at some point there will need to be subrepos, just like git has submodules. Like if I’m building a subprotocol that requires hosting a ton of video data, Bluesky itself may not want to host all of it, and a subrepo seems like a good solution. 010
