KNOCK ON WOOD | YA Romantic Fantasy Trent Crimm (The Independent): “A lovely novel. It’s the story of a young woman who goes on a journey from loner to leader when she joins a magical heist crew in exchange for help finding her father, in a similar vein to A Wrinkle In Time.” #DVPit #YA #F #R

#DVParty Day #4. A meme for my YA Romantic Fantasy novel, Knock On Wood. 16-year-old Zorry prefers working alone, but when her dad is kidnapped by people from a different realm, she must choose between sticking with her loner ways or joining a magical heist crew to gain their help in finding him.

First frame has two red buttons next to one another. One button is labeled, "Search a different realm on my own to find my kidnapped dad." The other is labeled, "Koin a magical heist to get help finding him."

The second frame has a superman-like character with nervous sweet on his chiseled face, pressing a handkerchief to his forehead and looking nervous. The label reads "Loner Zorry"

My Mood Board for Knock On Wood In a world where superstitions were invented to prevent magicians from discovering their power, a loner teen girl joins a magical heist in exchange for help in finding her kidnapped father. #DVParty

A 9-squared graphic with eight images: green clovers, a black cat, a red-upholstered throne, an old, historical castle, two hands touching in a romantic way, an amber ring, a group of friends overlooking a sunset, a broken mirror. The ninth square is the label Knock on Wood with "Mood board" and the author's name, Elia Sheldon

#AskDV What are some overdone elements in YA Fantasy that will make you stop reading the pitch, query and/or the opening pages? Thank you so much for answering our questions!

#AskDV I've read that using overly successful comps or comps older than 3 years is not good practice in querying. What's your opinion for both queries and for pitch events like this one? Thank you for doing this!

The Summers Between Us Cover Reveal was today and I’m so excited to share! Pre-orders are available now as well in the US/Canada!

A decade apart, a painful secret-can two childhood sweethearts find their way back to a love that defies cultures and time?
Lia Juma thought she'd buried the dreams of her heart long ago. But when she's forced to return to her family's summer cottage on Pike Bay, the life she's carefully crafted begins to unravel. The perfect immigrant daughter, Lia has carved a successful career as a corporate lawyer and has just started dating a man who fulfills all her mother's criteria for the ideal son-in-law. But underneath her polished life lies a secret she's never spoken of-one she fears could have destroyed her family a decade ago.
Back at the bay, Lia stumbles upon memories she thought long forgotten and, at the center of it all, is Wesley Forest-the boy she left behind, the boy who knew her dreams better than anyone. Their friendship and young love once burned bright, woven through long sun-drenched days and whispered promises of a future together.

Yesterday, I finished integrating a sizable subplot into my heist novel manuscript. It’s the biggest change I needed to make in my revisions, so it’s all downhill from here. Onward charge!

I haven’t been able to convince Aurora Palit to come to BlueSky yet, but I’m loving on her book anyway. So if anyone’s looking for romance that PW’s starred review states, “readers will be unable to keep the smiles off their faces,” I got you! Happy Pub Day, Aurora! @andreabrownlit.bsky.social
