Postdoc Appreciation Week continues with Dr. Elhanan Harel, a new postdoc who recently joined Marisa Palucis's group. His research focuses on rivers and flow systems. See his last paper here: (doi.org/10.1073/pnas...)

Excited to share that I've started my postdoc at @dartmouthears.bsky.social, in Marisa Palucis's group! I'll be working on drainage systems and flow on Mars. Looking forward to an interesting year ✨

Today, I presented in the Israeli Geological Survey conference. The main research was - why the Nile Delta started developing only ~5ma and not earlier?

Beautiful gypsum crystals, found in weathered rocks of the low-mottled zone of the metamorphosed Hatrurim Formation near Arad, Israel. The Mottled Zone Complex was formed by natural combustion of bituminous marl and chalk. #IsraelGeology #minerals

Examining details of the central Negev geological map (Israel). In the background, an outcrop of the margins of a paleolake that existed in the Pliocene (Kuntila member, Arava Fm.), under different drainage settings and less arid climatic conditions than today.

Pieces of (probably) #Hematite found along one of the #Dead_Sea margin faults. Likely formed as iron-rich thermal fluids flowed through the fault and precipitated these minerals along the way. 🪨 #Geology #Minerals #FaultZones

🧵 1/3 Very excited to share here our new publication in PNAS! We reveal how drainage divides don't migrate steadily but in intermittent pulses, likely linked to paleoclimate shifts 🌍 📄 DOI: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... #Geomorphology #LandscapeEvolution #Paleoclimate #OSL

#Sedimentologists aboard! 🚨 Is this a submarine channel or a karstic void filled with sediment? Limited within the white lines are chalk and marl beds, the surrounding rock is limestone, and above the blue line is calcrete formed long after the underlying units. #Sedimentology #Karst #GeoTwitter

Winter in Masada, the Judean Desert. The closeup shows a cliff-parallel fracture following a weakness zone in the rock, formed by a calcite vein that began as a filled crack. Over time, the section between the fracture and the cliff will collapse, making the fracture the new cliff face.
