You may have noticed in the credits that one of the producers was someone named Allan Sandler. I checked to see if he was related to Adam. Adam’s father’s middle name is Alan, but there is no “link” between them. Get it? 😂 Thank you. I’m here ‘til Thursday.Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp was a short-lived but memorable 1970-71 American spy-comedy series on ABC that starred chimpanzees in all roles, with their voices dubbed by human actors. The show parodied spy shows like Get Smart, following secret agent Lancelot Link and his partner Mata Hairi as they fought the evil organization C.H.U.M.P. (Criminal Headquarters for Underworld Master Plan). A key feature was the musical group “Evolution Revolution,” which served as a plot device for coded messages. Premise: A world of intelligent chimpanzees where Lancelot Link works for A.P.E. (Agency to Prevent Evil) to stop the villainous Baron Von Butcher and C.H.U.M.P. Production: The show was live-action, with chimps in costumes, and featured human voice actors like Dayton Allen and Bernie Kopell. The dialogue was often ad-libbed to match the chimps’ mouth movements, leading to surreal moments. Musical element: The “Evolution Revolution” was a psychedelic rock band of chimps that appeared in musical segments, often used to transmit coded messages. Format: It aired on Saturday mornings, with episodes often containing two 10-minute stories and a music video. Legacy: Despite its short run of 17 episodes, it became a cult classic, remembered for its unique concept, high production cost, and bizarre charm.
