She found herself leaning into Miquella's touch as his palms slid beneath the fabric, tracing over the patches of rot on her sides that were revealed when her dress fell to the floor. Even now she could not understand how he could touch the parts of her which had been marred by the rot with anything other than disgust or contempt as the Perfumers did — as she did — yet never once had Miquella.

A summary of the Malenia/Miquella fic "Kintsugi" by Cinderflower which reads:
Miquella tries to recall what it was like - to be what he once was - and finds he cannot. His former self feels like little more than a shadow haunting his periphery. Never in focus.

What he can remember is that there is something more important than trying to grasp that which no longer exists: the promise which remains etched on his very soul. The promise which drove him ever forward through the realm of shadow, steadying his hands and heart as he cleaved piece after piece of himself. The promise of a cure.

A promise to finally bring an end to the endless sacrifices Malenia had spent a lifetime enduring.
