Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 19hWelcome to "Jacket Palooza" with Elevation Science! This is a fun activity that we at Elevation Science have done many times throughout our summers. Sometimes, our field paleontologists and participants have lots of dinosaur fossils to jacket and so little time, so we jacket them at the same time! 010
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Oops! Sorry for the misunderstanding! Jacket sponsorships are part of our spring/summer fundraiser. They will open again in the spring of 2027. We'd be happy for you to sponsor a jacket then! 😊 Having your name on a jacket full of dinosaur bones is AWESOME! 110

Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Thank you to Keith Guerin for sponsoring a field jacket for the 2026 season! This jacket is what we call a "JJ", made for smaller fossils that need a little extra protection for transport. Inside the jacket is a sauropod (🦕) vertebra, likely a caudal, which is part of the dinosaur's tail. 142
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 30/09/2026With all the advancements in technology today, is there a point to continue with actual "boots on the ground" fieldwork? We're here to tell you... Yes. Check out this latest story, featuring some of our field staff, to learn why going out into the field in the name of science is irreplaceable. 010
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Why are public lands so important? Public lands provide important habitats to native flora and fauna, clean water for local communities, and connections to our history and cultures. Get outside as much as you can. Visit your local parks and enjoy what nature has to offer. Love your public lands! 001

Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Someone's gotta get down in the dirt with the fossils... Guess that's us. 😎 010
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Thank you to our good friend Chuck for sponsoring a field jacket this year! This jacket contains sauropod (🦕) fossils from our Skyewalker locality. This site developed so much over the 2026 season, with possibly multiple species showing up in the fossil layer! We miss you, Chuck! 010
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Thanks again to the Montana Limestone Company for making it possible to get these fossils on their way to the prep lab! 000
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 18/09/2026On the final day of the field season, we called in reinforcements (AKA our friends at the Montana Limestone Company) so they might help us get these large jackets off the ground. With some careful maneuvering, the jackets were carried up the hill to the trailer. 100
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 18/09/2026This year, we had some pretty big blocks of both sauropod (🦕) and theropod (🦖) fossils. These blocks weighed too much to be lifted by hand; wooden pallets were built underneath the fossil blocks for support, then bolts were drilled into the wood as attachment points for straps. 100
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 18/09/2026How do paleontologists extract large blocks of fossils? On today's Fossil Friday, come with us to see how it's done! 220
Elevation Science Institute for Natural History Exploration @elevationscience.bsky.social · 16/09/2026A jaw-some time at Alabama Fossil Fest! 🦈 Over 500 people showed up from near and far to learn more about paleontology — how amazing is that!? Thank you for having us! 020
