Keeping lots of arcades going is a lot of work, not only the cabinets but also the game PCBs, so Heber has released a new board based on the MiSTer ecosystem. The Mister ecosystem is FPGA-based, & there has been a recent focus on proper FPGA implementation of the various arcade hardware platforms.

Quite good especially considering it is both a budget game and from a region that mostly did lazy Spectrum ports. Mastertronics obviously had a proper MSX coder for their early titles.

Just normal ram use but plan out every byte and due to the system bios the max is ~780 bytes on the Coleco. Minimal use of the stack helps as well. Cavern Fighter was the hardest on the Coleco it was down to finding extra bytes in BIOS function buffers.

VDP is common other than VRAM timings (depends on how much they spent on the vram :)), normal ram is also limited on the two consoles, 1k Coleco, 2k Sega. VDP pattern table hack can’t be used if you want to include/exclude Toshiba MSX (also doesn’t work on Memotech).

I develop a gold version on one of the systems using a standard library that I have ported to all four systems. They all have different boot/setup requirements & different interrupt handler styles, so that code does change. Two different audio chips so sound effects & music need to be made twice.
