Health update: surgery recovery is going nicely. Back to work and a normal daily routine. Doc said I can ease back into physical activities. I am fiending to shoot, don’t care what side of the camera I’m on at this point. Also, down 120 pounds. Need to add muscle back. Time to join a gym.

Because of the surgeries I went from being a pack mule to being unable to pick up a sock off the floor. There’s a lot going on and I know the worst parts of it are temporary, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t getting to me mentally. Dunno why I’m sharing this, just needed to put it somewhere.3/3

Some days I look in the mirror and see the same 330+ pound guy I’ve always been; other days I don’t recognize the person in the mirror. I still have a belly, and thicc thighs, but I can also see my ribcage and bones I’d never seen sticking out before. 2/3

I’m on my second month long surgery recovery in the last 4 months. In August I started taking mounjaro and making habit changes for diabetes management. I’ve had nothing but time the past few months to be hyper aware of everything my body is doing. 1/3

I told @gingerdraven.bsky.social what the bmi index suggested for my weight range and her immediate response was the same: “Hell no.” It was a very “you’re not doing that” tone, which I very much needed to hear from an outside-my-brain voice.

I recently noticed a disclaimer under my goal weight saying that wasn’t within healthy range according to BMI, and a healthy range for a 6’2 male starts in the 140’s. That sounds like slenderman proportions. I readjusted to 180 and we’ll go from there. Is there a better metric than BMI?
