Having grown up in North Vancouver the shore line was filled with industrial shapes, drydocked ships and metal structures. My Dad, Aunt and Grandpa worked at the shipyards so its no wonder they make an appearance in my abstracted art. I've always been fascinated with quirkiness.  I let my own sense of quirky and humour guide me when I have paint on my brush. And, I allowed the organic shapes, strong colours, softened edges and a variety of texture make this an intriguing almost human-like image. A diptych comprised of two panels on gallery depth stretched canvas. Panel on left is 24" x 24" and the one on the right is 24" x 18" (24" x 42" total).

I loved the feeling of freedom while painting this one. Many layers and iterations, collage and beautiful colours culminating in the whirlwind of lines and shapes. I love my adventures on Vancouver Island. Everywhere you go there is water. Streams, ponds, lakes, rivers and ocean. Not to forget the tarns and puddles. As an abstract artist this piece was one of my first larger paintings. Using a limited colour palette, mixed media and acrylics I was able 'find my stride' once I pushed past my own limiting thoughts. It was such a burst of energy to allow the paint to flow.
