What will the increasing professionalisation of landlords mean- an increasing role for institutional investment? Am reading Christophers latest brilliant book, and the potential implications of a very significant growth in asset management style management of English rented homes is pretty scary

We wanted to start conversations, and the Handbook pairs chapters to draw out links and differences and provoke reflections. We hope you find it interesting! It is available from lots of places - books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&...

We specifically wanted to make sure it did not tell a single story, but rather examined connections and provocations, so we deliberately sought authors from a wide range of disciplines and locations, exploring a range of different subjects which might be framed as within social welfare

It is massively exciting to be able to say our Research Handbook on Social Welfare Law is now available. The other editors and I are delighted with how it has turned out- we believe it contains compelling accounts of social welfare law from around the world, and a wide-ranging future agenda

The sooner the British Museum returns all the stuff, and focuses instead on brilliant exhibitions like the Silk Roads, the better. Can really recommend it, tracing culture, ideas, religion, trade and beautiful things. Just look at this 1500 year old glass from Egypt, which was discovered in Korea.
Small blue glass, from Egypt in 500AD, taken to KoreaPhoto of text which reads - Imported glass. This glass cup was discovered in the tomb of a royal male, alongside an orate gold crown and other precious objects. It is of a late Roman type found across the Eastern Mediterranean region. Scientific analysis indicates it was probably made in Egypt which had a major centre of glass making in Alexandria. The presence of Mediterranean glass objects in tombs as far away as the Korean peninsula and Japanese archipelago reflects their valued status as luxury items in the ancient world.

Very pleased to be part of this collection. Maria Fernanda Salcedo Repoles from UMFG and I discuss her work in Minas Gerais, to explore the ways law operates as part of a system in which life is disposable and ungrievable, but might also offer the possibility of resistance to such a framing.

You can just imagine the creative meeting. "OK guys, we need powerful arguments for Airbnb as a force for social good to resist further regulation. Thoughts? Remember there are no bad ideas in a brainstorm."
Advert for Airbnb. Photo of an older man standing in a garden. Text reads "If I didn't have the earnings from Airbnb, I'd have to be claiming government support."
