Handle for U.S. Thoroughbred racing in January. @turfwaypark.bsky.social had the best month by far. Charles Town did OK, too, so people responding to the nighttime signals. Turf Paradise is killing Parx and Mahoning so this year.

Tough week for the marquee event, as Gulfstream Park was down 14% while the rest of the industry was up 1.9%.

Santa Anita has a good card, too! Plus needed to fill out the O-H / I-O! of consecutive grids!

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 20/01/2025

They're racing at Fair Grounds today, and it's a tough card! Going to zero in on races 3 & 7 as potential plays.

If you've never played Mahoning Valley then today is your day! #3 in the lid lifter looks good, and I don't like either (morning line) favorite in the nightcap.

Happy heavenly birthday to my grandfather, Dominic Marchetti. Seen here at the far right of this Thistledown win photo, he’d have been 95 today. He got me into horse racing, and we named my son after him. A prince of a man.

Tough comparison this week w/ Oaklawn & Turfway opening same week whereas they didn't last year. I compared Turfway's opening week year over year because that matches Aqueduct's big races as well. Tougher than the comparison is the figures. All sources down 15% on 8% more races = not good

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 08/12/2024

For those unfamiliar, a common "WAY" in which Cincinnati-style chili is served is between spaghetti and cheese. That's a 3 way. A 4th way is open to interpretation w/ either onion or bean the most common option (a 5 way includes both). Today I did a 4 way w/ jalapeno & it was fantastic!

Well, the horsemen certainly got fat this Thanksgiving week. Average purse up 7.5% while handle per race down 2.6%.

000

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 01/12/2024

Handle in November was about flat, but Gulfstream Park after a slumping autumns post Covid rebounded in a big way this year. Charles Town & Fair Grounds also had big months.

This is just a fantastic dozen races for the antepenultimate day of racing at @churchilldowns.bsky.social for 2024. Featured Clark goes as the penultimate race of the 12. Get pumped!

010

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 29/11/2024

No live racing in CA meant bettors elsewhere feasted on Thanksgiving. Overall handle down, but average per race up. @churchilldowns.bsky.social Inc. tracks (CD + Fair Grounds) were up 17.8% together.

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

Happy thanksgiving from the DeRosa kids and @churchilldowns.bsky.social Charley!

The last time Bob Baffert saddled a horse for his/her career debut in November at @churchilldowns.bsky.social was 2003. The six-time @kentuckyderby.bsky.social-winning trainer is expected on hand beneath the @twinspires.bsky.social today.

010

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 27/11/2024

The return and the debut: Bob Baffert makes his first start @churchilldowns.bsky.social since May 2021 with the career debut of BARNES!

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 27/11/2024

Disappointing to see Zia Park give out more in purses the past two days than it handled in wagers. Nice weeks so far for Parx, Mahoning, and Mountaineer tho! Perhaps not-so-coincidental is that Parx and Mountaineer are the two @twinspires.bsky.social tournaments tracks.

160

Ed DeRosa @ejxd2.bsky.social · 27/11/2024

I was not prepared for this level of honesty. Penn National stuffed shirt basically admits high takeout is for the CAW’s benefit. Gross.
