USAID has long been a character in 'Gimme Shelter'. USAID has been almost everywhere I've been before I arrived and after I left, a prominent reminder of the humanitarian spirit of the United States. It is devastating to see the organization dismantled and disrespected.

This is one of the first things I look for during regime change - the UN provides a range of services for countries in need, and whether a new regime opts in or out of that support speaks volumes about their priorities.

By way of introduction: I cover UN missions as a freelance, with a focus on refugees, labor migration, and disaster relief. In the States, I'm in DC weekly and New York monthly. I'm finishing my first book, available Spring 2025. For fun, I watch movies, cook, and make a mean cocktail.
