Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 25/03/2025The Health Secretary tasked NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to be “pioneers of reform” through “strategic commissioning”. Commissioning is how ICBs spend £164 billion of public money to improve health. Our new @nhsconfed.org report sets out what strategic commissioning should be. 👇nhsconfed.orgPioneers of reformSix proposed shifts to achieve strategic commissioning that will drive public service reform and ensure a sustainable health and care system. 020
Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 13/02/2025Amanda Pritchard said on BBC Radio: “We need to think much more radically, particularly about capital…I think we now must consider private capital investment in the NHS…if we don’t fix our buildings, if we don’t fix our technology we’re not going to... really drive that long term improvement" 000
Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 13/02/2025Very welcome to hear the NHS England CEO say today that we need to think about private capital investment to support the NHS - two days after our @nhsconfed.org report said exactly this (covered in FT) www.ft.com/content/8ce9...ft.comNHS leaders call for use of private finance to build hospitalsNHS Confederation says such funding is needed to fix dilapidated infrastructure 131
Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 11/02/2025And great to see the report's findings covered in today's @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/8ce9...ft.comNHS leaders call for use of private finance to build hospitalsNHS Confederation says such funding is needed to fix dilapidated infrastructure 000

Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 10/02/2025Important to note, that both measure only the volume of activity hospitals do, not actual health outcomes. Therefore any NHS investment which keep people healthier and out of hospital in the first place (what most of us want) just count as a cost and would, perversely, lower the productivity figure. 000
Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 10/02/2025This is both fascinating and exasperating. NHS England say NHS acute hospital productivity us up +2.4% on last year, ONS says it's down -3.6%. Have we ever had such widely varying official data informing policy-making? 100
Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 31/01/2025Really welcome to see the proposed NHS Payment Scheme for 25/26 commit to launch “pilots to test out new payment mechanisms to support NHS priorities” - as our @nhsconfed.bsky.social report proposed last March #NHSreform www.nhsconfed.org/publications...nhsconfed.orgUnlocking reform and financial sustainabilityExploring the advantages and disadvantages of different payment mechanisms in healthcare. 010

Edward Jones @ejcjones93.bsky.social · 13/01/2025As we get stuck into the New Year - and I get stuck into Bluesky - and work on NHS reform continues at pace, this feels like a good time to reshare some thoughts for @futuregovforum.bsky.social on what the government needs to do to make change happen www.futuregovernanceforum.co.uk/2024/10/14/h...futuregovernanceforum.co.ukHow can the government fix the NHS? It can start by aligning its own levers - Future Governance ForumDelivering Labour’s Health Mission will require a more coherent approach from central government. 001
