TokyoR enjoyed the world premiere of mizu today, and Mizu-chan stole the show: lock-free shared-memory parallelism for R, plus a Python binding on the same C core. Repos are open but pre-release, and the API will change. Feedback welcome on GitHub. github.com/shikokuchuo/... #RStats #Tidyverse

ぜひ試して、感想はGitHubへ! github.com/shikokuchuo/...

Wow, thank you so much! I was actually a sponsor of yours until a few months ago (knitr helped me a lot!), and I never imagined the sponsorship would come full circle like this. :)

I also want to highlight @jolars.co 's excellent arity project. Its Rust parser and formatter made working with R source code much easier and was an important foundation for mini-roxygen. github.com/jolars/arity

For most R package developers, roxygen2 will probably remain the best choice. But for packages with expensive native builds, such as r-polars I maintain, replacing roxygen2 with mini-roxygen may improve the development experience by avoiding a full compile just to regenerate documentation.

I have released version 0.4.5 of arf console. An experimental feature has been added: automatic R version switching on a directory basis, allowing the R version to be automatically selected based on a file something like `rproject.toml` for rv. #rstats github.com/eitsupi/arf/...

dbplyr 2.6.0 is here! This release leaned on Claude Code to clear a TON of smaller issues, freeing up time for the big stuff: brand-new ADBC and JDBC backends, new translations, and a new sql_dialect() to cleanly decouple connection from SQL dialect. Read more: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-06...

I built a CLI tool for analyzing dbt project lineage, with reference to best practices for building AI agent-friendly CLIs. dlin parses SQL directly, so no manifest.json, dbt compile, or Python is required. Written in Rust, single binary. Outputs JSON, Mermaid, DOT and more. github.com/eitsupi/dlin

There are also numerous other improvements, including a history backup feature and documentation to help with migration from radian.

It was a particularly noteworthy improvement that pasting multiple lines now works perfectly on Windows, because this was made possible by fixing a bug that had been left unfixed for years in crossterm! github.com/crossterm-rs... I never dreamed that writing arf would lead to such a situation.

Can you check the R path with the :info meta command? It's possible that you're using the other R than the one installed by r2u (i.e., is rig not installed?). Please specify the R path you want to use in your configuration file.

For example, when trying to initialize R on Windows, I was instructed to try all three methods (radian, sircon, and ark), and in the end only the ark method worked, so there was a lot of trial and error, but I don't understand the details myself. What's amazing is the ingenuity of our predecessors.

Actually, my Rust skills are not that great. Most of the code for arf was written by Opus 4.5, and I only instructed them to refer to the source code of sircon, etc. (I was also in charge of manual testing.)

The installation size has become slightly smaller (9MB v.s. 11MB now), and I confirmed during development that startup times are faster. As mentioned on mstdn, this is probably due to the fast drawing speed of Rust, so drawing may be faster than in the regular R console.

#rstats I've been testing out `arf`, a new R console written in Rust. Early days, but a v. smooth experience so far. Much simpler to install and link from VS Code than radian, for example, with better features too. github.com/eitsupi/arf

I don't think I could have done this kind of software without AI, so I have a lot of respect for what was written by hand, but times seem to have changed, for better or worse.

In fact, the existence of sircon convinced me that this was technically possible, and I've been thinking about making it someday. I've never installed sircon, but after having Claude Code look at it, I was impressed by how incredibly advanced its functionality is.
