This is some mixed messaging, my dudes. Consider your first principles. (Then maybe let's talk about whether the violence required to make this place was worth it.)

LINDA.
"The only thing that really needs to be done at South Station is clean the bathrooms, they really need some attention," said Linda Radzvilla of Mashpee. "So if Trump's willing to do that, I think that'd be really wonderful if he could come in and scrub some toilets and wash down the walls."

Last week I found this photo way back in my camera roll and now I wake up every morning thinking about it. I would start a vision board but it would probably result in a murder board about me.

My morning drugs are kicking in, so just one more for now: This is the worst dip I've ever experienced. Everyone at the party was completely revolted but kept eating it to figure out what it was. A decade later, my friend still texts me this to let me know she's thinking of me. And to horrify me.
I honestly don't know what this is. It's brown gelatinous goop, flecked with red, with a mutilated block of what I hope was cream cheese. It looks like barf and barely tasted better. Sorry if this was your dip, but if you're still making it, stop for the love of human kind

During Covid lockdown, my husband would make weekly cheese and charcuterie boards in elaborately symmetrical arrangements, I think just because it made me laugh. And because cheese.
Three blocks of cheese fanned out, with line of sausage medallions and surrounded by nuts and fruit.Four slices of blue cheese arranged around a block of quince paste with wings of apple slices and candied walnuts A whole wheel of blue! This one has a checkerboard of figs, dates, dried cranberries, and apple slices A wheel of washed rind, soft stinky cheese surrounded by rosettes of prosciutto and flanked by figs and dates. There's also wine.

The thing I'm learning about #ChronicPain is how to endure with the precious parts of yourself—joy, pleasure, love, curiosity, wonder, all that mushy stuff—intact. So here is my thread of reminders of myself, beginning with a flower I've been trying to draw for years and can't quite capture.

A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L'Engle. The cover is a doozy: a hot centaur with arms made of fire-rainbows soars over a semitransparent turquoise orb containing a disembodied bald green head with red eyes. The orb floats high over a barren, mountainous landscape under a dark green cloudy sky. The vibe is prog rock album cover.

The frontispiece and title page to Erasmus Darwin's The Botanic Garden.

On the left, an engraving entitled Flora Attired by the Elements. Flora, a fashionably dressed late 18th century lady cum Greek or Roman goddess, is seated on an ottoman and is being fussed over by four figures representing earth, air, fire, and water. There's also a creepy little dude coming out of the ground with a leaf on his head.

The title page reads:

PART I.

CONTAINING THE ECONOMY OF VEGETATION.

PART II. THE LOVES OF THE PLANTS. WITH Philosophical Notes.

LONDON, PRINTED FOR J. JOHNSON, ST. PAUL'S CHURCH-YARD.
