iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

David @eiscreamsherlock.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

In one of his books, Bruce Barnbaum recommends film for B&W and digital for color. Since that aligns with how I want to engage with the photo process, I've decided to treat that as "law". 😁

Oh no. I think, "Well, it's cheaper than Polaroids," is going to become a new justification for all sorts of purchases. 😅

Shhh! I've been on the fence about finally getting one for my inner 12-year-old. If the other nerds find out about Songbird, I'll have to wait forever for the restock. 😁

Probably not the weirdest out there, but I was a "squire" in the show at Medieval Times for a few months when I was 17. Entirely too dangerous for 25 cents above minimum wage, but I learned how to with horses and how to crack a 14ft bullwhip so not worst gig I've ever had.

I managed to finish the whole book without buying a large format camera. Please clap. 😁 #filmphotography #photography #analog #believeinfilm #filmisnotdead

I'm certainly no expert, but I would not have guessed a print this good is "just" an inkjet print. I've been holding off on trying physical prints untill I have some shots that I think are "good enough" to take to a darkroom, but I might have to start playing around with this. Thanks for sharing!

This is both an amazing and horrifying piece of writing. Top marks but also _barf_. 😁

Dude, for real. It's my first year going and I was worried I'd made a huge mistake when I saw how many, "Let us autoslop your game so you don't have to make anything" booths there were. The speaker sessions have been really solid though and I've met a couple of nice people, so not all is lost.

From one aging-millenial-foto-nerd-internet-stranger to another: It can be a huge pain to get through the process, but I think the struggle is absolutely worth the reward*. *The reward of "being able to start tasks like people who don't have too many of the wrong brain spices do." 😬

This was so informative. I've recently started dipping my toes into the cyanotype world via some 6x6 negative contact prints. Some of them turned out okay and some turned out... not. I've got some new things to try based on your findings, so thanks a lot for taking the time to share! 🙂

I went to finish a roll of film on #WorldPhotographyDay and my F3 started misfiring toward the end of the roll. 😞 I did pet two neighborhood cats though AND I got this picture of my composing assistant, so not a complete wash of a day. 😁 #photography #catsofbluesky #photographersofbluesky

There are some tree branches in the very top of the foto and some faint clouds in the sky in the top right.

If you avoid most of the people who take it way too seriously, Disc Golf is actually a nice and fun way to walk around outside for an hour or two.

Eyeballs are liars. Light meters are not. Even if you only use a phone app for now, learn to listen to and trust your light meter. You will "waste" less 100ISO film that way. 😅

David @eiscreamsherlock.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

I can't tell if the focus issue is from a bad take or me bumping the camera during the scan. I did get a shutter remote so I don't have to do the, "Hold your breath and try to push the button extra carefully," during the next set of scans, so we'll soon see.

This one comes at the end of a push-pull-box experiment I'm trying. I shot a roll of Foma 100 and 400 both at 200, so I'm curious to see how the three will compare.

Maaannnn, same. I've made a mental note to bring my pancake 50 and my 28 with me the next I have to check pocket sizes the next time I need to shop for shorts or trousers. 😅

I couldn't say why, but I really love a good line of fence posts diverging toward a vanishing point. Great capture!

Yeah. "Those below-poverty-wage staff members aren't meeting my standard of service" stance is... not a good look.

Quick question from the uninformed: Is the Mulberry paper coated with something so that you can enlarge and print onto it? Or is it a special type of computer printer paper?

It's silly, but running around with the F4 makes me feel more like a "real" photography than my D750 does. 😅

David @eiscreamsherlock.bsky.social · 07/08/2026

Ah, gotcha. I was going to suggest taking a look at the "Awesome Self-Hosted" list (github.com/awesome-self...) and standing something up on a Hetzner (multiple EU options) VPC, but that's definitely gonna involve a lot more wiring work than an existing platform.
