I didn't play it but from what gameplay I've seen it seems fine. Not world changing but a decently good time. I also think that people also forgot that this game had a fair bit of development trouble.

These people are, in a way, "the end justifies the means" drawn to it's natural and quite frankly stupid conclusion. "It's just pictures, no need to spend time on it just generate". And it's not like they'd pass on the savings to customers anyway.

Reminds me of an article I read where in a survey of over 4,000 CEOs, over half said that AI hadn't made them more profitable or productive and whilst they were concerned, they seemed to think that they hadn't invested hard enough in AI.

I completely agree. I was just thinking that if a company is going to talk about how a game looks, at least have an interesting art direction. I've said elsewhere that it wouldn't suprise me if the focus on graphics is in part due to wooing investors. Easier to show progress that way.

When I first started playing it I mentioned a few names to my partner and she decided to have a look and apparently there are a lot of puns and references that you'd need to be italian or very familiar with italian pop culture (especially from a certain era) to understand.

Precisely. I'm still convinced that the obsession with graphics was pushed so that AAA companies have an easy way for investors and shareholders to understand that progress is being made.
