Lads, corporate AI spend has already peaked. Look how much Anthropic (in brown) is losing already, no wonder their comms are getting desperate.

When the Pope is a better ally to creatives than the Culture Secretary...
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Context for the Anthropic "oh no, we must slow down or we'll end the world" nonsense
Cassandra Unchained
@michaeljburry
Let's all take a moment to understand how self-serving it is for OpenAI, Anthropic and other execs of big hyperscalers to talk of slowing things down.
1. LLMs are not AI and won't be AGI. There is nothing AI to slow down.
2. Competition is coming up fast, slowing benefits incumbents.
3. IPOs need hype & puffery; "we are so awesome it could become dangerous" is hype & puffery
4. Cover for real uncontrollable slowing growth as IPOs look to be pushed out

Translation - Business leader worried his product is getting less competitive and there's no real way to improve it whilst keeping the cost the market wants. So it's important everyone else stops competing before his creditors come knocking.
Anthropic CEO says race to develop AI is in need of a slowdown
Dario Amodei, co-founder and chief executive officer of Anthropic, during an interview on "The Circuit with Emily Chang" at Anthropic's headquarters in San Francisco, California, US, on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Anthropic is testing a different version of leadership, one where the CEO protects nearly all of his time for big-picture conversations, organizational culture, and giving input on research direction and strategy, rather than managing people in senior leadership roles.

Literally every sentence of this paragraph is, generously, a misreading of the text of the film. Less generously she either stopped watching it for most of the second half of the film or had already decided she hated it and has wilfully decided to misrepresent it to justify the hate she held.
In Nolan’s Odyssey, slaughtering people with the help of trickery, technology and weapons is presented as bad when the Greeks are killing the Trojans, who have violated xenia, but good when Odysseus is killing the suitors, who have violated xenia. Taking something ostensibly abandoned by Odysseus and his comrades is natural and forgivable when the Trojans lay claim to the horse, but unnatural and unforgivable when the suitors lay claim to Odysseus’ palace, food, wine and wife. Strangers in Ithaca are to be treated with gracious kindness, as possible gods in disguise; but strangers in foreign lands are usually monstrous, to be blinded, robbed and slaughtered. Defying the gods is noble and brave when Odysseus blinds Polyphemus, son of Poseidon; it’s stupid and greedy when Eurylochus eats the Cattle of the Sun. Deception is bad when Odysseus tricks Sinon or the suitors trick Telemachus, but good when Telemachus and Odysseus trick the suitors. Sharing is good, and Odysseus is seen taking his place at an oar alongside his men; but one-man rule is also unambiguously good, and those who challenge monarchy or autocracy, or try to eat more than their allotted portion, are either evil (the suitors) or foolish (Eurylochus). Either way, they have to die. It is bad to fight and kill to accumulate wealth, as Agamemnon does; it is good to fight and kill to preserve the wealth that you have already acquired (even if by war). Any one of these moral contradictions could make for an interesting and generative theme in a movie, but Nolan lets the fragments of an incomplete set of big ideas spin around in the epic whirlpool, with no plank of solid, specific human experience to which we might cling.

His last swing at making a film included this. He's a bit of a monster, probably more at home with AI than people.
Criticism of crash depiction
The film was widely criticized for its use of Mardenborough's crash at the Nürburgring Nordschleife as a narrative element. This segment faithfully re-enacted a March 2015 crash during which his Nissan GT-R Nismo became airborne at the notorious Flugplatz turn and cartwheeled over the fence into spectators.[58] One spectator was killed almost immediately and others were taken to the hospital with serious and severe injuries.[58][59] This crash was depicted in Gran Turismo as a traumatic event for Mardenborough that impacted his racing performance during his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The film combines two real races into one event: Jann's debut in LMP2 at Le Mans racing a Zytek Z11SN-Nissan for Greaves Motorsport happened roughly two years before the crash (the team finished 3rd, as depicted in the film); his debut in LMP1 at Le Mans racing a GT-R LM Nismo for Nissan Motorsports came roughly 3 months after the crash (the team did not finish due to a car failure in the 23rd hour).[60][61][62]

The use of a dead spectator to enhance the plot was negatively received by critics, with the film being labeled as "tasteless" and "reprehensible".[63][56][42]

Here's the deal in a nutshell, folks. It's probably not what you'll want to hear, but I'm going to give it to you straight.
All of you here in sales are going to be replaced over the next two days with a biologically-engineered, sentient jelly.
Is this some kind of joke?
I wish it was, Glenn. But this came directly from corporate last night..
So, are we going to be transferred to another division or something?
No, you'll stay right here. You see, we're going to have to allow the 'jelly' to slowly consume each one of you, so that it can absorb your knowledge and personality.

A reminder that we should actually be glad that Firefly ended after one season and we can enjoy that short chain of golden episodes. Because Whedon and co's plans for later seasons were horrifying and disgusting. T/w: Rape
In a 2012 Science Channel special about “Firefly,” series writer and executive producer Tim Minnear explained

She had this magic syringe. She would take this drug. And if she were, for instance, raped, the rapist would die a horrible death. The story was that she gets kidnapped by Reavers and when Mal finally got to the ship to save her from the Reavers, he gets on the Reaver ship and all the Reavers are dead. Which would suggest a kind of really bad assault. At the end of the episode, he comes in after she's been horribly brutalized, and he comes in and he gets down on his knee, and he takes her hand. And he treats her like a lady. And that's the kind of stuff that we wanted to do. It was very dark. And this was actually the first story that Joss pitched to me when he asked me to come work on the show. He said, 'These are the kind of stories we're going to do.'

However, at another point, Inara was going to be slowly dying (Baccarin confirmed as much at a panel), so I imagine that is what Whedon ultimately intended the syringe to be revealed to be, although that plot also was never resolved.

Blackstone caps withdrawals from flagship private credit fund
There are worrying signs in the private credit market today.

Blackstone has restricted withdrawals from its flagship private credit fund for the first time, after redemption requests surged to $4.5bn in the second quarter of the year.

Blackstone is limiting redemptions to just 5% of its net assets, after allowing 7.9% to be redeemed in the last quarter.

Such a restriction is allowed under the fund’s rules; Blackstone points out that this “structure is a fundamental feature, with investors exchanging some liquidity at times for long-term outperformance”.

Without it, it could be forced into a fire sale of its assets if too many investors tried to cash out at the same time.

The AI industry accounted for more than a third of private credit deals in 2025, data released last month shows.

Nasdaq falls 1% as chip stocks drop
Technology shares prices are falling at the start of trading in New York, after chip giant Broadcom failed to impress Wall Street last night.

The Nasdaq share index has dropped by 1.08% in early trading, as the recent strong rally in tech stocks hits a hurdle.

This is not a great backdrop for SpaceX’s plans for the largest stock market flotation ever, announced last night.

Broadcom are leading the Nasdaq fallers, down 14.3% as its latest outlook for AI sales missed forecasts.

Last night, Broadcom estimated AI chip sales for the third quarter of its financial year would be $16bn, below analysts’ estimates of $17.2bn.

Other chip companies’ shares have fallen too, with semiconductor designer ARM down 6.2%, and chipmaker AMD down 5.8%.

The AI-led equity rally is showing signs of fatigue, says Bob Savage, head of markets macro strategy at BNY, adding:

Broadcom’s weaker-than-expected AI revenue outlook has triggered profit-taking across semiconductor and tech stocks, raising questions about the sustainability of valuations and leadership within the AI theme.

What parts of your project will use AI generated content? Please be as specific as possible.
We have made use of AI generated artworks and audio so far, as well as AI code review and suggestions. We plan to eventually replace AI generated art and music with those produced by hired artists.

Do you have the consent of owners of the works that were (or will be) used to produce the AI generated portion of your projects? Please explain.

There’s no deeper meaning; there isn’t even any symbolism, even non-political. There's just no symbolism at all. My books are just purely to entertain."

"They’re human stories," Jordan shot back.

"If you’re faithful to the source material and you don’t insult the intelligence of your audience, and give them something really interesting to grapple with, [and don't,] dare I say it, try and shove, like, crappy identity politics into it, you end up with a ... good movie at the end.

This here. Not even a moment to consider "actually... that's bad and they shouldn't have to adapt to it"
If we look at AI from that perspective and say, “AI is here and it’s reducing the number of people who need to traffic to my current experiences,” that’s one way to look at it. There will be some creators that look at it that way. I would hope we look at it the other way and say, “Some of these platforms are going to give you a way to participate, are going to give you a way to take your expertise and put it in front of people in a way that actually helps them in a different way than you could connect in the past.”
