I was absolutely terrified by a Sunday school cartoon that showed Adam and Eve being expelled from Eden

I emerge from the void with a book. This is "All-Consuming" by ratbones, a Guardian zombie apocalypse au, typeset by @helle-bored, and it was an excuse to get a little bit experimental in design and technique.

A handbound book sewn on linen cords with the pages and sewing exposed at the spine the cover boards are dark gray weathered wood with the title stenciled vertically in red. The ends of the linen cords are laced through the board, then held down with furniture staples and the loose ends are frayed.

A close up shot showing the cord laced to the boards. A little bit of the board is chiseled out at the edge to help the cord stay in place.

A view of the spine with all the folded pages stacked up and sewn together.

The book open flat showing the front and back cover together. The back is about the same as the front, without the title.

Happy birthday Xi Ping!!!! If this gift seems instead like torture, blame pipi for the horrors she put him through. I will never recover. #TaiSui #太岁 #priest

Xi Ping looking at the destroyed mirror Zhou Ying wrote “I was here” on. His devastated expression is reflected in a mirror shard that he’s looking for traces of san-ge on, below Zhou Ying’s writing. His eyes are glowing gold, the sky is in inverted colours, and his field of vision is dark outside of his immediate focus as he’s using his spiritual sense to look for those traces, which are highlighted in gold when he finds them. He’s wearing a bracelet on his right hand that looks like a headband san-ge used to wear and green robes. (Head-canon) More mirror shards are visible on the ground below the one he’s holding.

I'm working on a bookbinding of one of my favorite Nie Huaisang fics (archiveofourown.org/works/294884...) and I'm experimenting with a cover structure inspired by kintsugi, where the bookboard will be separate "broken" segments pieced back together

(I just noticed a shift towards stop-suggesting-books in the discourse and we can't, we have to remind the adults who buy books that there are other books kids in their lives can and should be reading)

I spend enough time in bookmaking spaces that I keep thinking "Ugh yes, fuck that brand of printers especially." before forgetting that it can refer to other things.

Just let your kids loose in the library, you don't have to vet everything first, they will find some cool new stuff on their own.

A lot of HP's staying power, that I see, is coming from parents who remember enjoying one (1) series of books as kids and don't even bother to seek out anything new when it comes to their own kids.

The thing about having kids is they will introduce their own memes into decade-old games for instance there is a thing you can do with portals that they're calling "6-7-ing"

Evil as Humans for an urban fantasy monster romance with some very fun body horror. Or C Language Cultivation (by the author of Little Mushroom), in which the main character gains the ability to cultivate via programming, which was all fun and games until it made me cry for real

I have not read it (yet) either, but yes there is a cat! That makes three priest black cats that I know of.

100

E. Hyde @ehyde.bsky.social · 23/02/2026

I haven't actually read yet it so I'm like "well I know there's a black cat in this one I can at least incorporate that into the design" 😂 (now I get to read it on paper!)

Latest bookbinding project: the fan translation of Mo Du by priest, using a typeset made by @rainisfallingdown.bsky.social

A book bound in black, brown, and beige plaid, with a light brown leather spine, and small paper labels on both the spine and the outer edge of the cover. The label reads "Mo Du / priest / vol. 1"

Three volumes in a line side by side. Each book has a small label with the title and author at the fore-edge of the cover. Volume 1's label is towards the top of the book, volume 2's label is in the center, and volume 3's label is closer to the bottom.

The top edges of the three books. The page edges are painted gold, and the headbands are made of the same plaid fabric as the covers.

The endpapers are a repeating pattern of letterpress-printed black cats, with gold pawprints inbetween.

The novel had some issues too but overall handled her pretty well, I thought! I haven't watched far enough to say how the drama compares, but iirc the novel was at its worst when she was first introduced. There was a short extra about her backstory, it's spoiler free for the main plot
