My friend, Fr. @kennethtanner.bsky.social, has written a beautiful meditation on the Human God, Jesus of Nazareth, and I heartily commend it to you. I pray many will choose to loiter over the face of God with him. It changes absolutely everything.

Jesus knows the holiness of work because he practiced it with Joseph and Mary. God in Christ has dignified quiet, unseen, sweat-of-your-brow labor. This is the work that feeds hungry mouths and sustains the world. (Image: “St. Joseph & the Child Jesus” by Joseph Collier.) 2/2

Today is the feast of St. Joseph the Worker. It’s good to pause and remember that the Holy Family worked. Yes, they kept Sabbath and stopped for prayer. But, like most of the world’s poor, they had to work very hard just to make ends meet. 1/2

A collect for the feast of St. John Chrysostom
O God, who gave your servant John Chrysostom grace eloquently to proclaim your righteousness in the great congregation, and fearlessly to bear reproach for the honor of your Name: Mercifully grant to all who proclaim your word such excellence in preaching, that all your people may be made partakers of the glory that shall be revealed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
