I feel like we should talk more about how The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is absolutely begging for an irreverent, semi-serious reboot, but just gets grimdark boring slop sequels to the original film instead.

One and a half star Letterboxd review of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022, reads: I feel like if you bring back an iconic final girl for an unnecessary sequel, just to pointlessly kill her off after five minutes of screen time, we should be allowed to hunt you for sport.

#nw "Match" (2025), bc I gotta see what's going in with this flick that's got the Daily Mail's knickers in a twist.

Poster for Match (2025), a tubi original movie. Features a frightened looking young woman, with smudged makeup, holding a lit match.

Top stories from a google search for Match (2025). First link is from the daily mail, and is entitled : Why Tubi horror film Match is making people sick with its 'repulsive' scenes: 'Sickest thing I've ever seen!'

Finally getting to watch this bc it never got a theatrical release (or at least not near where I live). I'm still angry that they've called it "Fréwaka" and not "Fréamhacha" which is less silly and ACTUALLY CORRECT, but Irish language movies are so rare that I can't complain. #horrorsky #nowwatching

I'm so glad that the NECA cenobite figures specify that this guy was a dude once, bc until now I just thought some really fucked up dog somehow solved the S&M hell puzzlebox. #hellraiser #horrorsky

NECA figure of the Chatterbeast from the movie "Hellraiser: Bloodlines". The text reads: "Once human… perhaps the oldest of all Cenobites. The ravages of time and the constant reconfiguration of the flesh have created a being more animal than man… A living testimony to the true personification of guttural instinct and the desire to feed."

It's been so long since I've done a NuWho rewatch that I clean forgot that Rose Tyler genuinely believed that this frightening shiny homunculus was her boyfriend. (Obligatory "Fuck Noel Clarke").

Screenshot from "Rose", episode one of the first season of the Doctor Who revival. Depicts a very unconvincing auton that's supposed to be Mickey Smith.

A spectacular haunted house flick with a twist, a dark and fun horror comedy, a classic cosmic horror that I probably would have loved if I was younger and edgier (sorry, Isabelle Adjani, you were still spectacular), and... the Elm Street remake (ew). #letterboxedfriday #lastfourwatched

Image showing letterboxed recent activity for username "ollpheist". The films listed are "Presence" (2024), rated four stars; "The Monkey" (2025), rated three and a half stars; Possession (1981), rated two and half stars; and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" (2010), rated one and half stars.

Saw "The Monkey" bc tbh horror comedies are best seen while there's still gonna be a crowd, but jfc the audience was absolutely tranquilised. Only time one of them showed any movement was when a girl turned around to glare at me for laughing at one of the many darkly hilarious deaths. #horrorsky

3 and a half star Letterboxed review for The Monkey (2025), reads: "I feel like I would have enjoyed this movie even more if I saw it with a packed theatre of like-minded horror fans, and not a bunch of weirdly puritan gen zs who sat there in stoic silence as a lady jumped into an electrified swimming pool and was inexplicably instantly reduced to human marinara sauce.

Honestly felt like I'd stumbled into the middle of a weird military psychological exercise."

A pretty fun 3/5 read, but some of that worldbuilding was more than a little shaky. Absolute worst fictional world to live in if you're a horse girl. Absolute infuriating book at times if (like me) you are a donkey apologist. #booksky

The cover of the novel "The Blacktongue Thief" by Christopher Buehlman. It is largely black and white, though the sky and author name is a dark yellow. It depicts two people, a man and woman, both armed, walking towards a tower in the distance. A cat follows them. A tagline is present just underneath the title, reading: "Your smallest mistake could become your biggest adventure".

And yeah, I specify /early/ Hemlock Grove bc 1. that show got REALLY bad, and 2. they switched up the actual trained wolves for really unconvincing CGI that just made the werewolf/vargulf look like possessed bad taxidermy.

A screenshot from the finale of Hemlock Grove season three, depicting a man being attacked by an incredibly unconvincing CGI wolf. The wolf's forelimbs are stuck straight out foreward in a bizarre, unnatural manner.

#justwatched I''m not all that chuffed to have another title to put into the "movies in which more men are killed than women, but their deaths are usually quick and conventional, while at least one woman gets put in the people shredder 6000" category.

For all that I make playful jabs at old movie special effects, I absolutely respect the decision of F. W. Murnau to have the random werewolf in "Nosferatu" (1922) just be some random striped hyena wandering the woods. Learn from him, Leigh Whannell.

Dialogue card from the silent movie "Nosferatu" (1922). Reads: "You can't go any further tonight. The werewolf is roaming the forests."

Anyway, I wish I saw Nosferatu again. And I wish there were hyenas in Nosferatu, like there was in the original.... albeit those hyenas were actually meant to be werewolves. Bc 1922 was a simpler time.
