Poor Liquorice has suffered some complications following his recent leg amputation.
Last Wednesday, just six days after his amputation, an abscess that had developed in his lower abdomen and genital area ruptured, leaving him with a hole about the size of a 2p coin. Unfortunately, the skin around the wound, as well as the skin covering one side of his penis, had died and was slowly breaking down.

He was immediately rushed to the vets, where he was put on heavy-duty antibiotics and pain relief. Nothing could be done surgically until the infection was under control and all the dead skin had finished breaking down.

We took him to the vets twice a day to have the wound flushed, cleaned and treated to help reduce the infection and keep the surrounding skin healthy. As you can imagine, this has been an extremely stressful and upsetting time for everyone involved.

Liquorice was also given strong pain relief to ensure he remained as comfortable as possible, and his amazing foster home has nursed him around the clock, never leaving his side.

Thankfully, we have finally turned a corner, and the vets are really, really pleased with how things are looking. He was originally going to need surgery, but the vet now feels that the wound has improved so much that it will be better to allow it to heal naturally rather than put him through further surgical intervention.

It is going to take some time for the wound to heal completely, but Liquorice is doing incredibly well. After several days of being very poorly and not himself, he is now much brighter and happier. He even greets the vets and nurses with his little waggy tail — despite knowing that they are going to flush his wound, which is understandably very sore!

He really is such a happy boy, especially considering everything he has been through.

🐾 EGLR 2026 Auction Appeal 🐾

Hello auction buddies, debwas in two minds this year about holding an auction. As many of you know, they take a huge amount of time and effort to organise, money is tight for everyone, and postal costs are absolutely horrendous these days.

However... after seeing the number of complex and poorly dogs that EGLR has taken in recently, it’s clear that funds are very much needed. And with my amazing auction buddy Caron willing to give it another go, we've decided to move forward with an EGLR 2026 Auction!

So, if anyone has any items they would be willing to donate for the auction, we would love to hear from you. Every donation, big or small, will help us raise vital funds to support the dogs in our care.

Your support, generosity and kindness are always greatly appreciated and will be gratefully received. ❤️

Please get in touch if you can help.

Thank you from all of us at EGLR and, of course, from the dogs who depend on us. 🐾

Please read updates about liqorice progress Two parts❤️ #skyhounds #bluesky #dogsofbluesky #fosteringsaves #rescues #journey #uk #sharemystory #news www.facebook.com/profile.php?...

As many of you know, a couple of months ago Ldiqorice underwent surgdery to remove the top of his femur following an old injury that had been left untreated for some time. Sadly, because of how long he had been suffering, he was left with complete muscle wastage in his leg.
Since then, Liqorice has been working incredibly hard. He has had physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and laser therapy, all in the hope that we could get his leg working again and give him the chance to use it properly.

We wanted so desperately for this to work.

But over the last couple of weeks, it became clear that things weren’t improving as we had hoped. Liqorice wasn’t putting his leg down when standing, there was very little muscle development, and his knee also appeared to be causing him discomfort.

After two examinations by our vets and further X-rays, we had some incredibly difficult conversations about Liqorice’s prognosis and, most importantly, his long-term welfare and quality of life.

As a team, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to amputate his leg.

It was not a decision we made lightly. We had fought so hard to save that leg, but ultimately, we had to put Liqorice first. He deserved the chance to be comfortable, happy and free from the problems that leg was causing him.

His operation was on Thursday, and the first few days have been tough. He bled quite heavily and needed to return to the vets every day for dressing changes, so it has been a worrying few days for everyone.

But today is Monday, and we have some lovely news.

Despite the swelling and bruising, Liqorice is doing really well. He is getting around amazingly on his three legs, and, most importantly, we are slowly starting to see that cheeky, happy personality of his coming back.

And that makes everything worth it.

After everything this boy has been through, seeing him take those first steps and watching his little personality return is incredibly emotional. He has shown us just how resilient he is, proud

CLEARANCE

We know it’s been warm recently, but it won’t last! Soon it’ll be cosy nights with blankets!

These are Sherpa backed blankets with a hound design on the front. These are similar to the other designs of blankets we have done.

These are on clearance as we are not 100% happy with the design. It looks slightly pixelated, you wouldn’t notice it, and we are definitely perfectionists. Please review the images before ordering. We have two sizes available as below. Stock is limited.

Small - 127cmx152cm £15

Large - 150cmx200cm we used to sell these sizes for £30 but we are reducing these to £20.

UK postage on top (£4).

Please comment or message to buy. Once these sell out, we will not be restocking. ❤️🐶

Lola now available for rehoming
Aged 5 Dachshund
No cats
Dogs yes
Kids older

Lolo has joined EGLR looking for her new start in life, this dachshund is on the bigger side but still wants to be a lapdog as she loves cuddles and fuss and will squeeze in the tightest spots just to get some snuggles in. Lola is an active girl who loves her walks but she isn’t allowed off a lead as she will go off on a little hunt and goes selectively deaf but thankfully she is good on the lead and walks along quite well. Lola cannot live with small furries/cats or any feathered friends, she can live with other dogs but can also been an only dog as long as she has company. Lola travels well in a crate in the car/van. For more information on Lola please give us a call.
