Not working for Nebula isn't a prison sentence, and Jacob Gellar has done nothing in service of rehabilitation.

Lol I've been blocked. But where is my path to rehabilitation? I can reform myself, surely, but this has been denied me.

He hasn't actually done anything. If there exists some grand pathway of rehabilitation, he is presently on step zero, acknowledging the reality that there's anything requiring rehabilitation. How about we wait for some rehabilitation before declaring him rehabilitated.

Like, AIPAC dollars are an albatross around a Democrat's neck now, so it seems like a pure exchange of money for influence. But that's not how it always was.
060
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Also, the power of AIPAC isn't really bound up in money. It's not that much money at the end of the day. A lot of their power was simply in telling people a candidate was good for Israel. Because people frigging liked Israel. I feel like that gets memory holed sometimes.

Yeah, it's really easy to find people who genuinely back any particular political perspective, and they're liable to do a much better job than a faker. The valuable a faker possibly brings is flexibility, but a single issue advocacy groups doesn't get that much from flexibility.

What claim do you think is particularly good and therefore requiring of rebuttal?

eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I think you're talking about a different kinda thing. He's trying to find, like, that time MrBeast tweeted about tacos, or some particular NYT oped from five years ago. It's pretty atypical that he's seeking out a sociology paper or somesuch.

That's genuinely confusing. I saw, "They're making their own heated rivalry," and just assumed that meant it was gonna be some kind of gay.

Really an incredible movie. Linklater has turned out a lot of classics but Bernie might be my favorite one.

Relatedly, Adventure Time is also very special. Such a wildly experimental show.

Notably, "booster v doomer" is a debate in which both sides view AGI as a grand inevitability, where it will certainly gain sentience and overtake the world. They just disageee on whether that's a bad thing. More reasonable AI criticisms are effectively orthogonal to these, rather than between them.

eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Is this actually the case? That show is so frigging bad. It's not like it has literally zero decent jokes, but the whole thing is broken at a fundamental level.

eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Lol yeah, your time is what's been wasted. You still haven't made a single substantial argument, spending 90% of your time whining about nothing.
010
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I do say so. Because it's true.
010
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
It's so funny when people do this. You can simply not respond. No one is holding your feet to the fire and forcing you to post replies on Bluesky.
020
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Because it's true, yeah.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
It's a deeply bad faith mode of argumentation you're using, and your accusations are ludicrous in light of that.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Since you seem incapable of understanding fairly basic rhetoric, I'll explain this more directly. You are acting in bad faith. I'm making arguments, and, instead of actually saying anything, you're essentially just saying, "Nope. You're wrong." But in a jokey way that papers over that absence.

Glad we agree.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Right, I disagreed with this comment, one that neither made any interesting point about AI nor requested one from others, by pointing out that a silly joke does not particularly indicate a grand epistemic bubble. Because it doesn't.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Oh dang, it's almost like I was intentionally misreading your sarcasm to highlight the fact that you were being pointlessly dismissive while making no actual argument.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
What have you said that's constructive? Hell, what have you even asked me for that's constructive? All you've said is that you don't like it when people make jokes that insult the computer program, and given some brief and reductive explanation for that perspective.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Wait, hold up, are you saying that, in spite of the fact that you disagree with me, you just made a totally empty sarcastic comment that didn't actually explain why you disagree? And that you did this while criticizing me for arguing in bad faith? Heaven forfend.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Glad we agree.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Cause I disagreed with the criticism. Hence my disagreement being more relevant than the fact that that wasn't my comment.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
How do you figure that's bad faith? Seems very accurate to me.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
So, to be clear, you hate "thought terminating cliches", but you're totally on board with being wildly dismissive while not actually making any argument whatsoever.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Those aren't my words, but, more to the point, how do you know the complexity and depth of this person's perspective? You're just making weird assumptions.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Like the person in the screen grab, you are treating aggressively normal joking about AI as far more important and meaningful than it actually is.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I didn't say there was some kinda false or exaggerated version of my views at play. I'm not satirizing AI critical perspectives. It's just a normal funny joke being appreciated by someone who is, in fact, skeptical of grandiose AI claims.
200
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Or, alternatively, I think about it a lot but also feel comfortable with silly jokes about it?
120
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Are you concerned by this? Why are you concerned by this?
110
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
A targeted insult? The insult is being directed at a computer program. Who cares? People can direct funny insults at the computer program from now until the end of time and I will remain wholly unconcerned.
120
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
The reason I don't wonder about that is because the answer seems incredibly obvious. The joke in question is reasonably funny. There ya go. If you need to invent some bonus justification for a reasonably funny joke, such is your prerogative, but the existence of a joke certainly doesn't say much.

I think it's vaguely worth note that I've heard the term "stochastic parrot" maybe two times in my life and entirely forgot about it until this moment. The idea that it's this slogan of immense power that will doom whatever grand AI movement this person wants is very funny to me.

Here's another great example of deep Republican "hypocrisy". They say they hate gay marriage, but they seem to get married a lot. Isn't that wacky and fascinating? Maybe they do like marriage after all. I am going to look no deeper into how this belief functions.

eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
See, it's funny because these policies that fundamentally exist to reassert reactionary beliefs about the gender binary are actually identical to a form of medical care that stomps all over those beliefs. This makes perfect sense and is a totally normal observation to make over and over again.

eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Man, that's obviously preferable to the alternative, but I really wish that politicians would just answer the question normally. Republicans are going absolutely wild on trans stuff. It'd be nice if Democrats were half as intense the other way.
040
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
Why would they assume that? More to the point, why would they assume that when their interviewee says something that proves they are not using the words correctly?
060
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I know a lot of people are down on Stancil but I feel pretty medium on him. Dude has some good takes and some bad takes and it all averages out to alright. But what even the hell is this? All the doubters and haters must have had a point because this is some hot nonsense.
010
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
The fuck? I ended up doing that too. Not diagnosed but, y'know, I suspect reasonably strongly, and it's thus far working reasonably well. Having very established deadlines (there is a class at a time and I must be in the class) is very valuable.

eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
It increasingly feels like Tennant is the only good cis English dude. Pretty wild.
100
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Right? Some of the people who came out as monsters made some absolutely genius stuff. Neil Gaiman and Louis CK are two of my favorite art guys. It's horrible.
060
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
It's increasingly clear that you are insistent on not actually saying anything besides scattered baseless insults. I'ma block you now.
010
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I would say this argument would make sense if claims like the ones you're mentioning were held by Nebula creators without it causing them to get booted. Otherwise this just seems like an unrelated double standard.
120
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Hence my opposition to everything we're doing in Iran. This argument only makes sense if you assume I'm in favor of what either the Israeli or American government is doing.
020
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Pretty unclear what your point is.
120
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
It means that, if Iran or something kills those people, then I will view that as a totally normal action that is consistent with the war we're conducting against them.
120
eggynack @eggynack.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I actually just genuinely don't know what your perspective is on the question.
