Just finished some CRP site visits in Kansas and Colorado! We actually saw a torrential downpour in Lamar! #CRP #grasslands #kansas #colorado

CRP field season preparation is ramping up but it’s hard. Whilst trying to encourage more landowner participation and work out contracts, the fear of losing my job is very real because my position is federally funded under a USDA grant with MAE (the webpage no longer exists). Here’s to hoping. #crp

Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country—they deserve nothing less than the full support and care they have earned.

We are in the midst of CBC season! I did a couple this past weekend and I think a big highlight was *possibly* the first eastern screech owl during our count in Lyon County! #cbc #birds #owl #easternscreechowl #kansas

Did you know that ~20% of the Amazon Rainforest was destroyed since the 1970s? Did you also know that over 60% of the North American Great Plains was destroyed since the 1970s? Both huge losses, but which one do you hear about more? #grasslands #conservation #habitatrestoration #plants #wildlife

New bird just dropped 🐦 🎤 ⬇️ For those who don’t know, I also do some wildlife (and plant) graphic illustration. If you’d like anything for some outreach or extension materials, I’d love to get in touch! #bobolink #graphicillustration #illustration #birds #grasslands #plants #krita

Grazing is a go!! We got our finalized grazing policy from the FSA and we will continue gathering landowners who want to participate in grazing for our research in CRP the next few years. 🎉 #CRP #grasslands #grasslandbirds #conservation

I gave a talk on grassland management and birds tonight for a local audience of folks at Wichita State University tonight! I had some great questions and conversation with people about managing our native grasslands for birds and more. #grasslands #grasslandbirds #conservation #scienceontap

Well this summer was a blur! Our plant and bird teams finished collecting data on plant and bird communities, nesting success, and biomass clipping for the season. Pics from the field include pasture meter and plant species measurements. Year 1 ✅ #plants #birds #crp #grasslands #conservation

We kicked off the start to our bird crew’s training and orientation yesterday! Next week we’ll be getting into data collection and our plant crews will start their training. I think we’ve got a pretty great bird crew this year! #CRP #grasslands #birds

Not many people know this, but I do some natural resource-based graphic artwork for outreach, extension, and hopefully publications. Here’s an example of heterogeneity-based habitat preferences of waterfowl in North Dakota! Based on data from Rischette et al. 2023.

Cool soil core with calcium carbonates starting to form limestone (years in the making). At least that’s what I understood! Very cool to see! #grasslands #soilscience

I’ve been out this week with our soil scientist to survey sites and take soil samples for our project! Some plants are starting to green up and the early birds are singing. Taking soil samples is also a neat process! #grasslands #crp #soilscience #soilcarbon

We did some prescribed burns at one of our field stations today to rejuvenate some grasslands that haven’t been burned in a few years. It was a success! #prescribedfire #grasslands

Hello! I’m Evalynn, a Research Project Manager studying the effects of grazing CRP on birds, plants, and soils. My background is avian ecology but my experience has led me to the grassland ecology world, where I hope to promote conservation that balances landowner needs and nature. #grasslands #CRP
