Some act that 99% of people don't even think twice about but you walk away contemplating life? I'll go first: whenever I eat Lucky Charms, I think of suicide. 000

ethan gregory dodge @egd801.bsky.social · 06/10/2026It's those that stay and double down on their religiosity that I still mourn. Not only do they view me as an apostate, but, if they're from the US, they likely support the transparently fascist take over of the our country. After all the hours I spent with them, I never could have seen that coming. 000
ethan gregory dodge @egd801.bsky.social · 06/10/2026It also happens with past friends that have chosen to stay and we're both much more understanding of each other's position. This is rewarding, especially when both experienced similar traumas AND the differing decisions are so consequential to our respective lives. It is so, so beautiful. 100
ethan gregory dodge @egd801.bsky.social · 06/10/2026It's always interesting talking to someone I knew from church, high school, or my mission. It's usually a 50/50 chance they've also left. If they have, there's a good chance our relationship will be rekindled. Sometimes it's in a really beautiful way. This is the case with my closest, oldest friend. 110
ethan gregory dodge @egd801.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I lost pretty much any friend I had at the time. I've since rebuilt a beautiful, rich social life with meaningful friendships that I wouldn't trade for anything. But every once in a while, the grief of losing the deepest of those previous friendships creeps up. 100
ethan gregory dodge @egd801.bsky.social · 06/10/2026When I left the LDS Church in 2015, I was the first person many of my friends knew personally to do so. Today, it's more common for those leaving to retain some relationships with believing friends. If someone doesn't know someone that's left, they're living under a rock. 100
