Nearly 2 years ago someone posted an NHS surgeons list for sex-affirming surgery on r/transgenderUK. When we couldn't find an updated version anywhere, we contacted NHS Arden Gender Dysphoria National Referral Support Services directly and got the current list. Link below :)

The review is likely to recommend more gatekeeping. Formally, it will inform a new service specification for the NHS, which then may eventually impact private provision via the CQC. In practice, GP prescription refusals are already common
Screenshot The text message Emily* received from her GP practice was life-changing. Emily, who is transgender, was first prescribed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) two years ago. It had enabled her life to feel “ordinary”. Suddenly her prescription had been stopped. The message explained that the GP practice was unable to “safely support ongoing prescribing or monitoring” of the “specialist drug”. If Emily wanted a new prescription, she would have to go private – a cost she could not afford. Screenshot But 28% (of 565 respondents) said they had lost access to their previous NHS record, 16% had experienced disrupted prescriptions, and 18% were misgendered in NHS written communications

One thing to certainly expect as the result from the Levy review is a separate under-25 service: as recommended by Cass, recent NHS documents state that currently "in the process of a tender" for a pilot
Screenshot: Following the recommendations of the Cass Review, a Pilot for 18-25yr old ‘run- through’ service will be commissioned by NHSE following the publication of the ‘Levy’ Adult review. Currently in the process of tender for a Pilot Provider.Data trends indicate increase in the number of 18-20 year old young people referred to services (good proportion of ‘de-novo’ referrals to adult services)

Unlike the multi-year Cass review, the Levy review is rushed. Announced August 2024 and initially expected by spring. Documents from various NHS trusts show that they expect it to be released soon, but with the timelines slipping; first mid-June, July, and still not out yet
Screenshot: The Gender Service continues to wait for the outcome of the Levy Review, which was expected in mid- June with no current updateScreenshot: The Levy Review report will be available by the end of July; assurance has been received of this date from NHSE. The Palmer Review workshop on 2nd July took place where plans were communicated and updates provided around future plans. The next IPR will cover all updates. The Palmer Review is ongoing with no known end date. The QI Practitioner is for a 12 month contract.

NHS England adult gender dysphoria services review, aka the Levy review, directly follows the Cass review that infamously examined youth services. Cass explicitly recommends a service for under-25s; this and the neurodivergence concern are a common theme
Screenshot: Recommendation 23: NHS England should establish follow- through services for 17-25-year-olds at each of the Regional Centres, either by extending the range of the regional children and young people’s service or through linked services, to ensure continuity of care and support at a potentially vulnerable stage in their journey. This will also allow clinical, and research follow up data to be collected.Screenshot: Clinicians who spoke to me felt that, in common with the population that is presenting to children and young people’s services, the majority of patient presentations were extremely complex, with a mix of trauma, abuse, mental health diagnoses, past forensic history, ASD and ADHD, and therefore this limited assessment was inadequate. These other clinical issues were not addressed or taken into account in decisions to prescribe masculinising or feminising hormones.

Everyone's talking about the EHRC guidance banning trans people from single-sex spaces like toilets + changing rooms... but there is another looming threat in the Levy Review TL;DR expected very soon; separate under-25 pathway, lays the groundwork for more gatekeeping in the NHS
Screenshot: Review of adult gender dysphoria services One of the recommendations of the Cass Review was a review of the adult service specification. [...] Dr David Levy, Medical Director of Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, and previously NHS England’s North West Regional Medical Director, will lead the review, supported by an expert panel of patients, clinicians experienced in the delivery of gender-related care, independent regulators and members of relevant professional bodies.Screenshot Levy Review The review of NHS adult gender dysphoria services in England[1], led by Dr David Levy, was announced in August 2024[2], shortly after the publication of the Cass Review. The stated motivation for commissioning the review included concerns about "inadequate, time-limited assessment", weak consent procedures, waiting times, patient demographics, and administrative problems.[3] It is still underway. Though NHS England originally expected to publish the report in spring 2025[4], it has not yet been released as of yet. Internal documents suggest publication may be close. Its likely effects are uncertain, but it may lead to tighter gatekeeping in NHS services, with possible knock-on effects for private clinics, particularly for people under 25.

when our enemies overstep

by @mayaofspring, crosspost

The interim guidance presented by the EHRC was not just overreaching in their interpretation of the judgment, setting off alarms and mobilising trans people to fight back, but they couldn’t even get it to be completely within the confines of the law, leading to Good Law Project successfully forcing some walkbacks already. While the anti-trans project will still probably largely succeed, it is one area in which they overplayed with some potentially risky (to them) consequences.

on elite takeover

by @mayaofspring, crosspost

One thing we trans people notice in the UK as we look around is that to a large extent we’ve lost a large chunk of people in positions of power, also known as the “elites”. On the other hand Terfs have largely executed their elite takeover well.

[...]Article

In this sense an attempt to regain the elite opinion is a worthwhile goal. While “medical transition makes sex mutable” is a good backstop against the advance, the pro-trans argument has to recentre the values likely to be listened to, like aforementioned autonomy, tolerance, and sympathy. Making people uneasy with confining us to the accident of our birth.
